Watched a few eopisodes of Hell's Kitchen this week. Was surprised to see Amanda (the cute girl that fooled around with Hosea) as some sort of expert chef to give the contestants advice. But, this is Hell's Kitchen, so all the mouth-breathing contestants did was clumsily hit on her and get shot down. Also, Cliff (black dude who wrestled with Marcel and got kicked out) is apparent an executive chef at BLT. Interesting.

amanda was cooking here in la for a while at a downtown power spot called water grill. seems nice enough and not nearly as affected as editing would have led you to believe. little suspicious, though, because she's gone already and that place usually holds on to its chefs for 4-5 years.

I'm excited for Top Chef Texas. I like Emeril and look forward to seeing what weight class Gail is wrestling in this season.

Had the chance to check out Catch, Hung's new restaurant in meatpacking. Seafood-centric. For apps we had tuna tartare ricecakes and crab stuffed calamari. For entree I had the snapper over lobster mashed potatoes and my date had the scallops. If I were to go again I'd do all small plates. Very cool atmosphere (boisterous crowd, great decor). Obviously had high expectations considering the executive chef, but I think this place will do very very well.
