I have been taking GNC Megamen multi on and off for a few years and have never really been happy with it, someone in the supp thread mention a multi from NOW nutrition called ADAm which looks like it may be good.

The best multi-vitamin is, without a doubt, Every Man by New Chapter Organics. I have been taking it for year and a half and haven't gotten so much as a cold since. It is real food, not synthetic, so you actually absorb it.

I use Once a day men's health.

Don't buy the ridiculous vitamins that give you 300% of vitamin x. You don't need anything more than 100% of the recommended daily intake.

Here's a good read...http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12842321/

Having spent quite a bit of time over on the imminst.org forums (where they take their vitamins VERY seriously), I can tell you that the consensus is that AOR Ortho-Core is the undisputed best multi. Of course, most of those people (and me) are taking a lot of other things in addition to a multi.

How about just eating a decent diet?

Not quite true. A mere fraction of synthetic vitamins are actually absorbed, so that 3000% DRV you just took of vitamin C will most likely only provide you 50%. I'm making those numbers up, but you get the idea. Unless your vitamins are from whole food sources, then yeah, 300% of any water soluble vitamin is far from ridiculous.

A decent diet? In the United States? Impossible, even if you eat all the right things.

I don't take multis, I think they are a waste. I get my vitamins from spirulina and chlorella superfoods. For minerals I take a zinc tab every day or every other day, and a teaspoon of magnesium citrate.

what makes a good vitamin a good vitamin is how much of the nutrients your body actually absorbs. there is actually a book that rates vitamin brands based on scientific tests of efficacy and absorption (which I don't have, unfortunately). I hear Centrum was one of the worst with something like 5% absorption. So I think even if a vitamin says it provides a certain amount of vitamin, even if that's true going in, if you lose most of it, you're not getting much at all.

I hear Kirkland (Costco brand) is the equivalent of Centrum. Needless to say, I stopped taking both.

Technically, it is possible, but you'd need to be excessively rich to be able to buy non-contaminated fish and organic, free-range, grass fed beef, etc. Each meal would run about $50.

I used to know a guy who sweared by this guy:

http://www.drwhitaker.com/

I bought a box of vitamin packs from them at one time. I can't say I noticed any difference between those and the packs I can get from GNC, but I would not call that conclusive.

Apologies in advance for the dogmatic assertion--this is a subject in which I'm fairly well versed.

The only vitamin pills worth ingesting are produced by the Grow Company (http://www.growco.us/gc_index.html).

Optimal micronutrient intake would consist of/include the following:

http://www.foodform.com/

Food Form Manna (6 tablets)
Food Form Bone Nourisher Supreme (6 tablets)

https://www.natures-own.co.uk/

Biofood Magnesium (3 tablets)

Optional:

Food Form Empower (1 tablet)

Food Form Vitamin C-300 (4 tablets)

Honestly, you are likely to be disappointed if you expect any multi to make a noticeable difference in your day to day life. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't take one or that you should just take any old cheap one--it just means that the effects are gradual and the benefits accrue over years, not days.

Although I'm unfamiliar with this company--and they may be very good--I'd have to disagree with your statement above, even with your caveat as to dogma. To be sure, there are a number of companies manufacturing crap, but there are also several very reputable ones. For instance, AOR Ortho-Core is considered excellent, as are products by LEF.

I've done GNC, Centrum, etc., but I really prefer Optimum Nutrition Opti-Men. It is definitely catered toward someone who is regularly active and preferably someone who works out in some form or another at least a few times a week. Also, drink a good amount of water, but I can't really think of anything to which a solution/answer isn't to drink lots of liquids/water.

caphill:

Thank you for your polite comments. I should say that when I make a post on this forum in reply to another's entreaty, it is with a high degree of authority and conviction. Asthe subject of "best" was broached, I felt obligated to offer my knowledge of that. In this case, as the best is not an incremental evolution (of synthetic isolates) but rather an integrated whole of a fundamentally different and novel nature, I consider the former to be a dinosaur who finds his size has become a liability in a changing world.
