Even if your adopted name is Rupert Oliver Hampden-Smith and you say "Do you like it, the shawerma?", it can give you away Anyway, I had a friend in college who told me that his grandfather changed the family name to Lane from Levine way back when correspondence was done via letters. Said it helped his business. But today, you have lots of prominent Jewish names, Speilberg, Goldman Sachs, Meyer (MGM), ... esp in media.

I trust I'm not the only member troubled by the apparent anti-Semitism of gratuitously using a performer's birth name against him. Some might say that avoiding this irrational and pernicious bias, which was the root of the greatest atrocity of the last century, would be impetus enough.
Obviously you're referring to me. I'm not an anti-Semite. One of my favorite college professors was Jewish. I've got close Jewish friends. The defense rests its case. I am anti-"Jon Stewart," and it has nothing to do with his Jewishness. I dislike his show. He reminds me of the large number of know-it-all college students who lean to the far left just 'cause it's "cool." And no, I'm not a conservative. I'm pretty moderate, perhaps leaning very slightly to the left. Oh, and before I forget, E.T. (directed by a Jewish man, Spielberg) is one of my favorite movies...and I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express once.

I don't know you and certainly have no reason to doubt you, but it seems unlikely that anyone free of religious or ethnic prejudice would make an issue of Stewart's original surname. Whether one finds him good, bad or indifferent, how is it germane?

I trust I'm not being held responsible for the Holocaust...

Etruscan, thank you for your gentlemanly, vitriol-free response. The best answer I can give you is that the far left, seems to be led(financially and otherwise) by none other than prominent Jewish people e.g. George Soros, and just found Jon Stewart's hiding his surname a little "fake." Again, not the reason I dislike Jon Stewart and his show.
