Spicy food - Page 2

I've never enjoyed spicy foods, so nothing has changed in that regard. However, I used to enjoy sweets and heavy sauces, but not as much anymore. I find in particular many sweets that I used eat to now be too sweet.

I still have a sweet tooth, but I've pretty much completely lost any taste for candy. I was never a picky eater, but have become much more broad in what I like. Bitter, spicy. I hated pickles, now love them.

This feels like a set up for some bad connemara jokes.

Ooh... I forgot Chile Rellenos on my list, although I can't think of a favorite place. But that's some fine quality New Mexican fare!

I still like creamy foods a lot but I have always loved hot food. I think most Black people grow up eating a lot of spicy food. Since I was 10 or so I've kept an emptied olive oil bottle full of scotch bonnet peppers, pimento and vinegar, it taste good on most foods. I've never felt spicy food "going out" fortunately.

I took a liking to very spicy Chinese food at an early age. Hot to the point that no one else at the table would taste it. As my grandfather would have said, I think I burned my rifles out, because I gradually became immune to the effects of the heat. Even now, years later, my girlfriend hates sharing Indian/Thai/Chinese because she can't stand what I consider a mild spice. In retrospect, it probably wasn't such a good thing for my palate. But boy, it was fun. In terms of foods, one of my favorites this time of year is white chicken chili, rich with spice and beans, and liberally seasoned with hot sauce for an added kick.

When I was younger, I ate spicy food so often... being Korean really tends to subject you to that.
I'd also take spoonfuls of Dave's Hurtin' Habanero for kicks, and considered the Insanity sauce to be really not that bad (though I did believe it tasted pretty bland for a hot sauce).

Nowadays, eating a lot of spicy food tears up my insides. I guess this is pretty bad considering I'm only 18. I still like a good amount of Tabasco, Sriracha, etc on savory foods, though.

Growing up with a Korean mother really helped to expose me to some damn good spicy food at an early age. I get cravings for some Kimchi Chiggae and head over to K-town after work. Whenever I do Mexican, I add a lot of spices to kick it up. My friends/roommates have to load on the sour cream and lettuce to help cool it down...I think they just don't have the built up tolerance, I love it. I will say that Chili is one thing that I do not usually enjoy when really spiced up. I like a good kick to it but I enjoy it more when it's not fiery hot and spicy.

Spicy BBQ sauce is ace for burgers.

The guy in the next cube and I got through Sriracha crazy-fast. I think the rest of the office is planning to stage an intervention.

That sucks, I really hope it never happens to me.

I've only ever had heartburn once and it was back in college when I ate nothing but pizza for 3 days straight...(can't beat free pizza!)

Once and a while I pay for the spicy food when I'm on the toilet but that's a fairly rare occurrence.

I do love the Sriracha, but people, Tapatio is where it's at.

I've always liked spicy, well seasoned food. When I was a kid I'd use way more pepper on eggs than people thought was healthy. Now I still like the heat, but appreciate a sauce if it's also very flavorful. I once came across a store in the Mall of America that sold pretty much nothing but hot sauces. I bought about 10 different kinds to see what kind of progress had been made beyond Tabasco. I tried them all out over several weeks on the same type sandwich and was surprised that Tabasco was easily better than any of them. Then I saw a documentary about Tabasco which explained the great quality of the Tabasco making process, including the aging of the peppers for two years (which probably none of the newer hot sauce manufacturers could afford to do) and came to understand what an exceptional product it really is. I eventually did come across another sauce, Watson's Calypso, which seemed to be the only real competitor to Tabasco, but is yet fairly different.
My all time favorite BBQ sauce is Leon's in Chicago, which is both very spicy and very flavorful, much better than any other that I've tried (and I keep looking for other great ones).

Tonight I had white chicken chili into which I dumped triple my usual hot sauce. Hope I don't regret it, but it was delicious at the time.
