Those monkey boots look great. Flying to London next month on business so if I have time I'll get out to Brighton.

Just returned from Brighton today, after flying into LHR yesterday. Weather was perfect for a beach trip, high was 79 degrees and sunny. Had a nice train ride down from London Victoria, bummed around Brighton sampling the sights (Royal Pavilion, beach) and had a nice beef roast outside in the sun.

The guys were very helpful and I got out of there with a pair of oxblood monkeyboots. Had to size down a bit, as I normally wear a size 8.5D in Allen Edmonds, which usually translates into a 7.5 UK but went down to a 7.0 UK and it fits fine. It was hard not to walk out with two pairs of those boots!

For SF'ers in the area, I'd highly recommend the trip. I didn't go down to Brighton expressly for JTG but for a 20 pound round trip from London Victoria, it may just be worth it!

I hadn't seen too many detracting posts regarding JTG, so I thought I would put one up as a disclaimer.

You know how hip to shoulder ratio differs from person to person? I'm not a heavy guy. If anything, I am under weight. I have a slightly higher than average hip to shoulder ratio for a slim guy, though.

I ordered a JTG gingham in a size 15 according to the measurements and the thing doesn't fit. Not only does it not fit, but it probably can't be tailored either. The arms are ok, but the chest is shitty and poofy. Somehow maybe the p2p measurement is accurate, but there is extra chest material. What really kills me is that... I can't button the bottom button, because my physical hip bone is too big. Very sad. Chest, too lose, hips... impossibly tight.

So, JTG - not for every body type, measurements aside.

For reference, I wear H&M slim fit button downs in Small and could imaginably tailor them down a half inch off each side. I have a hard time bringing myself to buy any other brand of shirt because H&M does me so well.

Looks like the navy Royal Mer jumper they sell at JTG. Where are the stills from? Don't wait for sales at JTG, they never do it, as they never have to make room for "new collections". £75 might not be cheap, however you will wear it for a long time. The quality is superb, much better than a similar jumper APC made last season. Hello from a fellow Brightonian!

I'm interested in the olive harrington jacket, but the photos show all sorts of loose threads... I hate that!

The harrington is pretty good - definitely worth the money. Reasonably well made and fairly good quality fabric. I won't say the quality is on par with some I have seen, but I'll still rank the JtG as the best you can get new for (well) under $150.

Any idea what kind of wool the Breton jumpers are? I'm hoping for merino.

Breton jumpers are workwear, made for fishermen originally. Merino would not be the right material for rough weather and hard work on a boat. The Royal Mer jumpers from JTG are made from virgin wool.

This is true. I found a place in MA that sells Armor-Lux Bretons and they are even more expensive than JtG.

The Breton jumpers aren't made from a particularly comfortable material. Unless you wear a long-sleeved shirt, it will scratch your arms. But I guess you'd be wearing a long sleeved tee in cold weather anyway.

I tried one on a few weeks ago and, on reflection, remember it not fitting half as well as in the picture I provided (which, by the way, is from French flick 'Le Peril Jeune'). I'd still be most reluctant to buy it for £75, as it's not very practical to wear with a collared shirt on account of the raised neck.

I'll give it some thought soon, as a Winter sweater is imminently needed.
