Best ties for a thick beautiful knot of soft silk? - Page 2

To reiterate - Tom Ford, Stefano Ricci and Brioni. I prefer a slightly larger knot that dimples easily, and these three will always deliver. I imagine what you're looking for is a tie that's 3.5" wide but most importantly retains its width as you progress upward along the tie to where your knot will be formed. I find that many tie makers (Brooks Brothers, for example) get too skinny too fast, and I'm unable to achieve a decent knot with them. This is also true of Hermes and Ferragamo.

Stefano Ricci ties make insanely fat knots; I have two and hardly ever wear them. The silk is really lush to the touch, but the knots are just so hard to keep to a normal-ish size even when tied in the simplest manner. The point made upthread about the taper being relevant as well as the thickness of silk and/or construction, is also valid. Ricci knots come out especially large for me even with a FIH because I'm shorter and so have to tie them at a point where the taper is insufficiently severe to permit a narrower knot.
