My advice on doing a rolling upgrade still stands. If you're really all that worried about your PSU, get 650 W, you'll be set for a while even if you decide to SLI and overclock everything. At full load, realistically, you're losing close to no performance.
Well, going SLI is actually the factor that is making me say "my PSU isn't up to the task". When I go SLI with two cards, my 400W PSU won't cut it. I'll have to upgrade anyway.
Further, I want to try and future proof myself to the extent possible. In 2005, I thought my 400W PSU would be fine for 2xGeForce 7800GTs, and for whatever other cards I would be buying in for the near future. Now with the new GTX280s, I'm finding that 400W is no good. Yes, I could get a 650W but I don't want to be in the same situation a few years from now when the "latest and greatest" video card requires more juice than my 650W can handle.
Last, I'm sure you've seen that there is tri-SLI coming down the pipe. The new video cards are power hungry as it is. Putting not two, but THREE of them into one PC is gonna really put a strain on a PSU.
Basically, my PSU issue is making sure that I can future proof myself as much as possible. CPUs, video cards and (to a lesser extent) mobos can go obsolete rather quickly, but IMO the PSU can last for quite a while without needing an upgrade. That's why I'd like to keep a bit of "overkill" in my pocket so I don't have to upgrade in a few years.
