You need at least one repp tie. They're indispensable. And why no Carlo Franco 7-folds? Any serious tie collector should have at least 1 or 2 Carlo Franco 7-folds in the wardrobe. Heh heh. For repp ties, I buy only Brooks Brothers. I don't care what people say about supposed quality, I think Brooks Brothers still sells some of the nicest, conservative, all-around-practical repp ties. I'd add a purple/gold (if you want purple) and navy/burgundy repp tie to that collection. Also, my tie collection tends to have a lot of simpler patterns (two-color ties with colors very similar, solid ties, ties with pattern in same color or slightly different color than background). You would be amazed how practical these types of ties can be, and they look very elegant. IMHO, it's a great way to add some color without getting too far from conservative (if you require this). Also, a solid gold tie, or a gold tie with light pattern, or a nice yellow, is essential to any dress wardrobe IMO. They just go so well with blue shirts, navy suits, etc. I posted a pic today in the "what are you wearing" thread that shows my outfit today, a gold Carlo Franco tie with navy blazer and lt. blue shirt. As you can see, it goes real nice with blue. I would consider at least one of these type of ties to be essential. Hope this helps somewhat. About brands: If you don't have a lot of money, pick up some City of London or Michael Kors ties. They're not 7-fold or anything, but a lot of their patterns look great, can be worn in casual or conservative environments, are modern and don't look cheap. Check 'em out.
