Favorite state capitol building

Fire away! For me it's either Iowa or New York. Iowa: New York. I think it was the most expensive public building ever built in the U.S. (3 architects, drama, delays...sounds like New York state government to me): Hillary getting some lovin' in the Assembly Chamber:

Maybe I'm a bit biased, but I like Maryland's State House simply because of its location right in the middle of State Circle.

It's in the middle of the above photo, with Church Circle on the bottom.

Just googled NM's, it is really bad.

Texas is my favorite that I've visited, though its sort of an Italianate version of the federal capitol. Funded by the sale of 3 million acres in the panhandle. There are a few other similarly styled buildings from that era, I guess there was an Italian flavor running around then then.

It sits sort of by itself on the top of the highest point in town.

This is going to be a neat thread. I really like New York's. Sort of reminds me of the Driskill Hotel in Austin.

Louisiana has surely got the ugliest.

If we are just doing US state capitols, I'd have to agree that Austin is gorgeous. Also some great statuary in the grounds - much from the US Civil War. There's also a cool little pub close-by called The Cloakroom that looks like something out of Film Noir or an espionage movie.

I grew up not too many miles away, so I'm just as biased, but I concur. It's absolutely gorgeous -- we even stuck the thing on our quarter.

Louisiana's is pretty similar. Both are ugly IMO.

Some of those are rather phallic.

Victorian State Parliament:

Louisiana's looks like something straight out of Stalin's Russia. Not surprising, since Huey Long was involved. Maybe phallic was just the style back then.

Stalin's Eight Sister, which was canceled before being built:

Hartford's old State house.

Austin for me, by a long shot. Philly's town hall makes you feel like you're in Paris. It might just trump all government buildings in the US. It's so shockingly beautiful, it looks like something from a dream.
