I saw an interesting recipe (Saveur?) that called for the berries to be first roasted w/ a jalapeno pepper. Never got past the drawing board as MIL volunteered for cranberry sauce.....

I have a pretty refined palate, but I cannot shake my childhood love of that solid block of jellied cranberry sauce from a can. Y'all can knock it all ya want.. but it tastes good.

+1. The canned stuff is what I need on the holidays. Notwithstanding the slightly metallic flavor, it is still my fave.

I have never had home made, Ocean Spray whole berry plopped out of a can is about as much of a tradition at my home as the butterball.

What's just lovely is fresh turkey leftovers on rye, with bacon, swiss, a little Dijon, and fresh cranberry sauce. Just stunning.

For the record, I draw the line at condensed cream of mushroom soup and canned onion rings. Our string beans were fresh and steamed

I can confirm that leftover goose is excellent in this manner as well. However, I confess that for leftover sandwiches, and leftover sandwiches only, I prefer the ridged, canned cranberry sauce.

I used to like the canned stuff when my mom served it during my youth. I don't even like it on sandwiches now, even though I used to.

Well, I agree that in this application, I don't mind it.

Lingonberries are uncommonly good, but the cran has a place also. There is a place for all God's edibles in Huntsman's culinary world. ~ H

You wouldn't need any extra salt.
