Cranberry Sauce

Do you enjoy cranberry sauce? If you do, which type do you prefer plain or whole berry?

I personally prefer whole berry!

I make a relish. Cranberries, apples, oranges, and lemons. Nice.

I like plain most, but only if it's home-made. I don't like the jelly from a can.

this year, i'm trying a recipe from the Nov. issue of Saveur: a cranberry relish with orange peel, jalapeno, spices, and port. You quickly roast the cranberries first. i cut the sugar in half.

Sorry, cranberry sauce is gross.

Oddly, vodka & cranberry juice is one of my favorite summertime drinks..

Maybe I need to try cranberry sauce in vodka and that might change my vote?

Canned sauce is some nasty stuff. Home made for sure, and probably better described as a relish like some of you would make: I would just stew some cranberries together with onion, garlic, a bit of maple and aged balsamic. Goes well with sauteed foie as well.

Anyway, cranberries are supposed to be in season right now but I can't find them anywhere; none of the stands at the farmers market carry it. I was planning on buying a few kilos of the stuff and freeze them, but it looks like that plan isn't going to work out.

Agreed. Pretty much everything at Thanksgiving should be homemade except the cranberry sauce.

Bonus - put a slice of canned cranberry sauce on your pumpkin pie, then put the whipped cream on top. You can thank me later.

Everyone underestimates the importance of cranberry sauce. I use it almost like a dipping sauce. YUMM
