high-end task chairs: knoll life vs. Aeron vs. Freedom Chair

That Freedom chair looks sweet. I've got an Aeron, which is miles better than the thing I had before, but could still stand improvement.

We plan on getting two Humanscale Freedom chairs. I had a gel one at one of my old jobs and.. man, so beautiful. I've tried Aerons and preferred the Freedom. I just wish I could get leather + gel. Ah well.

Leather is certainly more attractive, but it's not comfortable to sit on for long periods of time. I'm sitting on a leather dining chair right now and ****** is sweating. It's also more slippery, which makes you slide forward on the seat if you're reclining.

I think I've decided on the freedom chair. I can't imagine that I can go wrong with it given all the glowing reviews and I really like the headrest that moves in to place as you recline. I'm gonna go with the gel seating and advanced armrests. I'm not sure about the fabrics though. I think I will go with the Vellum.

What color should I get though? I think the two I like most are pomegranate and grass. The black/charcoal/grey ones are too dull imo. The pomegranate especially looks pretty nice with the polished aluminum base.

Thinking ahead, I will probably buy a biomorph desk after I get back from my trip and get my own place again. They're not the sexiest thing in the world but they're very functional with independent height-adjustable surfaces. I'd either go with the standard finish show in the first pic or the maple plywood in the second pic.

Neutral colors are best, you don't want to regret your taste later.

graphite looks pretty great in person. we have a graphite and an orange one in the office.

Thanks, but I'm probably going to order from gabriel ross in canada. With the current exchange rate, pricing is essentially the same as sit4less, shipping is free in Canada, and I won't get raped on duty.

^yeah, sit4less took 7 weeks to deliver and sent aerons instead when they delivered, as if we wouldn't notice when buying 7 of them.

Now that I think of it, I like Sage in the wave fabric too. It would also look nice with a blonde maple desk surface. Graphite vellum is also growing on me. I'm always horrible at these sorts of decisions.

Geek, I wouldn't buy any furnitures online if I haven't got a chance to "test drive" them, look at the colors and feel the materials in real life. Make sure you do that before you make your decisions.

I don't think anyone stocks them in montreal. Ditto for other options although I'm sure i'd have the most luck with the Aeron (tried a couple places for the life chair and came up with nothing). I just PMed fuuma as he might know a place, but google turned-up nothing. I will definitely order some swatches to make sure I get the right fabric though.

Answered by PM, not sold in MTL AFAIK. Call the NA section to make sure, they might turn up a random place I dunno about. Can't you ask someone who uses them in their offices?

I don't like the Knoll Life because I can't figure out how to adjust the resistance to leaning and the default setting goes all the way back if you breathe on it. It is pretty, though. The Freedom Chair is nice but really expensive. I also like meshes. The Aeron is great, IF you set it up well and get the right bottom cushion. They're sized and not that adjustable (if at all, don't remember) so many people find the Aeron as uncomfortable as a suit that's a size too large or too small. Another one to look at is the Teknion Contessa. I got a really good deal on mine over craigslist, probably because the market for high-end lime-green task chairs nobody seems to have ever heard of in a college town was nonexistent. Since then, I have pulled many an all-nighter in mine, and it is extremely comfortable. Nothing, so far as I can tell, is not easily adjustable to taste. I love it so much I would have paid full price for it, and the color is a conversation starter if nothing else. There are also headrest and valet options, though mine has neither.

I have an alpaca throw that's that color and I love it. I'm leaning towards the wave sage fabric for the freedom chair. It's gonna cost me $1500 bucks, but with the amount of time I spend in it, it's well worth it imo. I've been putting off gettnig a good chair for a while now, but I'm at the point where I can hardly stand to work at home.

I purchased two Knoll Life chairs for my office over the Aeron because I liked how they felt and the simplicity of the design. I looked for around 6 months for them on various websites (due to the lack of retailers who sold them) and nearly purchased one for $700 when I got a deal of a lifetime on them, 2 almost brand new fully featured Knoll Life chairs for $360. So far so good.

The freedom chair I liked because it was one of the only ones that offered neck support but it was way too expensive and with no locking back (which I need for my neck) it was immediately out of the running.

I found the Aeron to be the best built but I wasn't a fan of the fit as much as the others. There are plenty to be found however compared to the others due to the large amount of them found in offices and being resold.

i have a Leap chair at home that i like a lot. another good option.
