Do you hate eating turkey?

I hate eating turkey. I always see all these specials at restaurant and home gathering that serve fucking turkey at Christmas and Thanksgiving both in Canada and US, and I have given it a lot of chances to redeem itself. Alternative deli meat and all types of birds (chicken/duck/pigeon/geese) are infinitely better than turkey. Does ppl actually like eating turkey or is it just b/c they have to kinda eat it??

Well my family has only cooked an entire turkey once when I was very young and I remember it being very dry, and nobody really liked it so we stopped doing that. For thanksgiving we typically only get turkey drumsticks and eat those. So we have the American tradition of eating turkey on Thanksgiving, but we only eat the part we like. However, this year I'm cooking my dinners for myself (in college) and I've revisited turkey. Well, at least the breasts. I gotta say turkey breasts are actually quite tasty and adds variety to the menu. Now I'm up for trying a whole roasted turkey thing. Haven't brought it up though. The only problem is that we'll have a TON of leftovers. Then again, according to other people, thanksgiving leftovers are the best. Hmm... I've never had geese before. How does that one taste? I love pigeon. Had it once, wish I could find some.

Most people who say they hate turkey have never had well-cooked turkey. Then there's Matt, who serves duck.

If your turkey is dry it wasn't cooked right. Done well it is wonderful.

I cooked Thanksgiving for all my kids and their SOs last year, the first time since their mother and I divorced. My turkey was moist and juicy and the kids were like, "um, this isn't how mom cooks it? This is really good Dad!"

Turkey is fantastic (if prepared properly). I generally prefer turkey to chicken, but it is close. But I will always take duck or goose over turkey.

I guess what I'm saying is birds are delicious.

Just echoing all the comments about how those who don't like turkey probably haven't had it done well. If it's only something one cooks once / twice annually, it's worth learning to do right. I lean towards dark meat, but nice, juicy breast never offends me.

I`ve had bad, dry turkey many times as a guest at T.G. dinners, so I appreciate my wife`s turkey several times a year. There are probably better tasting birds (my favorite is cornish hen), but I enjoy those on regular nights.

I can agree that turkey cooked well is pretty decent, in fact I will give the deli turkey meat some merits. However, while it adds variety to the menu, it's inferior to its substitute. Another thing I absolutely hate is how it is usually forced upon me in particular situations like christmas parties and gathering at other families.

I would prefer quality chicken, duck, goose and pigeon over turkey anyday. Quality chicken is harder to get in North America, compare to Asia where they have a lot of live free range ( but then that's y they have all these avian flu ). The effort/skill spent on cooking a decent turkey can be better used on other birds.

Yes -- Turkey has more flavor than the equivalent chicken. Sadly, most turkeys are destroyed by misguided women. I cook turkeys in a variety of ways throughout the year. ~ H

I would put it as a tie if they are both farmed. If i feel like wings/legs i will take chicken, if breast it's tied or better.. duck! But then there's a lot of crappy chicken in the markets. I have to admit i have never tried wild turkey before, I know it used to be a luxury item way before.
