Furthermore, the Downing, though, edit: handgrade, -NOT Benchgrade quality, might only otherwise be available from Ben Silver for $655 here http://www.bensilver.com/fs_storefro...y=3241&group=2

Thanks Doc - I snagged those. I just bought some suede Delrays earlier today, but I couldn't pass up on a pair of C&J handgrades at that price. I hope the condition is as good as they look in the (unfortunately limited) pictures. edit: so they're benchgrades? I guess that's less of a score for sure, but I still like the looks of them. I'll reserve judgement until I see them in the flesh. edit again: I think the Ben Silver site does say handgrade. It also says "bench made," which isn't the same as bench grade, if I'm not mistaken.

After looking more closely and seeing the C&J stamp on the sock, I'm not sure whether they're benchgrade or handgrade. Also, the sole looks more substantial than a single-sole benchgrade.

I changed my mind, I think they're handgrade.

This puts the Burgundy Downing on my short list.

Regardless of grade they look like a good deal. Hope they work out for you Baron.

Edit: Some of the shoes Ben Silver sells within their "handgrade" collection are from the C&J benchgrade collection (Westminster, Chalfont, et al.)

Glad to hear it, Baron. Fingers crossed, but I'm thinking these could be a nice snag for you. Hope you'll let us know once they arrive.

iirc, the downing is a handgrade on the near-defunct 330 last.

Anyone know what model C&J these are? They look like the Quorn or Cottesmore except for the triangular stitching on the side.

I wish I could like those but they look kind of like a burn victim.
