Cool Shoes, Paraphernalia & Desiderata - Page 51

Those BB are definitely Green IMO, given the nail pattern in the heel.

I'm with Z on this. Save an identifiable last number, they clearly display all the other EG trademark touches.

Grenson "GALLANTS RANGE" black oxfords

I assume these are what preceded the Masterpiece range.

UK 9½ - G fitting

I was in the Newbury St. Ralph Lauren store in Boston yesterday and they had MacKays for $499 US. I was looking for 9D and they had:

8.5 in Dark Oak
8.5 in Edwardian
9.5 in Edwardian

There may be other sizes still available as well. These came with the trees. The 8.5s in dark oak had light scuffs on one shoe which would should come out with polish.

The edwardian is really nice--much better than in pictures. I would have taken one of the 8.5s if I had the cash.

Does anyone know what size that 9.5 G in US would be? 10? 10.5? Does that shoe run big or small? Is it a masterpiece?

Thanks

That shoe is not a Masterpiece, but appears to have at least one Masterpiece feature--the closed-channel sole. So it could be equivalent to a Masterpiece--perhaps the predecessor of the M, as Skalogre suggests. The 9.5 G size would, I believe correspond (a) in length to a large 10 US or small 10.5--really a 10.25--and (b) in width close to an EE in the North American system. Wrt the latter, some might say somewhere between an E and an EE--in any case, wide.

Grenson runs big, in every direction.
I think, for any given size, Grenson and Trickers make the largest shoes in the UK.

I would say, 10 EEE or 10½ EE as the American equivalent.

Oh yeah, no association with the seller...

I bought a pair of these and promptly returned them to GVH. They are very clunky and the toe is very rounded, which is impossible to tell from GVH's carefully taken pictures. I was repelled by them the moment I opened the box. The soles are also much wider than the pictures suggest. Buyer beware.
