I'm in the EG camp, so welcome to our side.

Doc, or anyone, do you know if you can get the Dover in blue at same price or is that an extra charge?

Here is the shoe by jcusey here:

The Dover and other EG models (Ecton, Ashby...) with the handsewn apron are priced slightly higher (~$100) than all other EG styles, which is why you saw it for that price rather than the $950 the others sell for. The blue Dover is MTO so if you want it in blue, you may have to order from the Top Drawer pgm. You should ask Tom from LS.

i just checked out some shoes at Gary's in Fashion Island, they are slowly upgrading their shoe selection:

they now carry EDWARD GREEN, ALDEN, BONTONI, ZEGNA, MANTELLASSI, and they have plans to bring in other premium makes as well.

they also have: Gravati, ferragamo/tramezza, Moreschi, Lorenzo Banfi?, Cole Haan (higher line, very nice, trust me), and fashion names like Prada and Boss.

speak to Lisa Welsch or the tall gentleman with glasses (dont know his name)

very nice reps.

The Keith Highlander longwings just arrived. Mine are pebble grain. CG and fairly shiny, but they're welted and fit true to size (at least for me). They're not as light as I had feared they might be, and seem pretty solid for a $35 shoe. Manmade footbed liner, but the upper is leather and the sole is stamped "genuine leather." Overall, I'm content. May put the acetone to them, or I might just wear them with denim.

So they are black pebble grain CG, possible vinyl liner, but with a leather goodyear outsole? sounds good for $35. I thought they might be plastic sole.

Keep us updated on whether you try to strip them down. I have a similar pair of CG pebble grain and I wanna know how well that works in removing the surface shine.

Mine are burgundy, but otherwise your description is right on. Mine even have double soles, so they have a nice heft. Metal eyelet reinforcements, too. The finishing is a bit rough in places, but, as you note, they're only $35. Don't see longwings at that price anymore.

I thinking I'm going to strip them -- maybe tonight. They'd look 1000 percent better in a more natural finish, and the CG had a weird, chemically odor when I opened the box. From the descriptions I've seen posted here, these seem a bit like the CG Loake Tyrwhitts -- OK construction undermined by shiny finish.

Some nice Grensons up on the Bennies site (MPs?) for $350.00. Seems like a decent, if not stop the presses, deal. The models in my size (13) look a little fashion advanced for my taste. The "Dandy" model looks pretty nice, but from the photos it's hard to be certain.

Looked @ Bennie's - I don't think that those are masterpieces, making the official retail price in the 600s inflated.
