oh no. i just found that out too. they had brown photo, but they said it is the black.
i dont like it now .

any quick recommendations for a college freshman looking for regular black dress shoes? i've been looking out for park avenues, and allen edmonds, but i don't know enough about dress shoes to really know the 'quality, timeless' brands
im a true size 8.5/9 D, so any ebay links would be awesome. used for concerts or presentations with just regular pants and dress shirts

looking for 130 or under, since it would just be an occasional shoe ( i know theres some steals out there on ebay but i just cant find them )

if you can afford 75 dollars more, you can get a brand new santoni goodyear semibrogue 8.5 D from me.
a better deal than a park avenue at 130. imo.

diorshoe: a little too expensive for my budget, since it will probably be an occasional shoe, and i'd rather not make a huge investment before i know what i really like any other recommendations? great thread btw

Well, diorshoe's prices are really excellent (and I like his shoes too!), but if you don't want to go that route, I would urge you to look for a pair of balmoral captoes, with little or no broguing. The A-E Park Avenues are the kind of shoe I'd recommend--a plain captoe with balmoral (or oxford) closed lacing (as opposed to open-lacing as found on bluchers). That kind of shoe is very versatile and will fill the bill for you for any dress events you're likely to be engaged in, as well as for all business occasions. They wouldn't look good with more casual dress, but with a suit, they'd work well--better than most other styles. You can definitely find shoes like the A-E PA on eBay for prices under the $130 you've mentioned. In addition to looking for PAs on eBay, look for Crockett & Jones, Church's, Cheaney, Alfred Sargent, Tricker's, and Ferragamo. (I've probably forgotten some brands here.) If you're uncertain about size and fit with any of these, come back onto this forum for more help.

Found these Tramezza's on Ebay. I own a pair identical to them and they are some of my favorite shoes. The antiqued finish is subtle and beautiful.

I own these in black, and they're great--very supple leather, great construction, true to size, fit like gloves. One small problem though, the entire lower layer of the right heel (the part that has the rubber edge) fell off while I was walking. A cobbler fixed it promptly and it never give me problems since.
