Cool Shoes, Paraphernalia & Desiderata - Page 358

Here is a good story: I started reading this forum about 4 weeks ago and then posting about a week or two ago. I knew nothing about shoes, still know next to nothing, but have learned a little now. Today we took our children for their semi-annual trip to the neighborhood where we lived before they were born, Brooklyn Heights. On the way to our favorite restaurant, we passed a woman and her son selling mostly junk on the street outside their apartment. As we passed I scanned what she had and noticed three pairs of shoes in shoe bags. Opened the first bag and there were a pair of Peal and Co. shoes made for Brooks brothers. Opened the next bag to find a pair of Crockett and Jones. Open the last one and out spilled a pair of John Lobb (paris) loafers. I'll post pictures in a separate thread...I'll need some help on value/how to prep them for sale. Although the lobbs fit perfectly...its a pretty boring shoe...on the other hand, maybe I was meant to have them...

I felt comfortable that these were welted and at the price, it seemed like a good deal. Has there been varying construction within a model (ie. some bishops are welted, some are not)?

I don't think so, they will be welted. You got a good deal on them.

Wow that's very awesome! What sizes are they? Was she basically giving them away for $20/pair or something crazy like that?

Consider them sold if they don't fit you

Given the fact that most people here have 20+ shoes, longevity with these shoes is really not a question. Also, where is the empirical evidence that shows goodyear welting outlasting blake stitching or hand welting outlasting machine welting? It's the same with the super120's/140's/180's/500's or whatever argument or the Oxxford has more handstitching than others argument. I find a lot of people get stuck on certain brands and construction and almost overlook fit, cut and style. For my tastes, it is irrelevent the amount of handwork or the quality of brands like Oxxford or Lattanzi as I have not seen anything from them that I would wear. The other side of the coin is that the construction of brands like Borrelli,Isaia,Boglioli Mantellassi is irrelevant to me as I love the way the stuff fits me and like the styling.
+1.

I come to the same realization ...

I posted these partly because the price is low, but more because of their curious blend of shoe features. They have elements of boat shoes in them, tassel loafers, and driving mocs. If you like a beveled waist, these may be for you! Certainly not my thing, but they may appeal to some. If interested, be sure to check carefully re size.

No connection with the seller, but this person is selling lots of new Alden's for some great prices. Mostly narrow sizes though.
