Cool Shoes, Paraphernalia & Desiderata - Page 350

A good week for me is a good week for AMEX. Damn the summertime sales + decent shoes showing up on eBay. Thankfully I have a decent size wardrobe now so I don't have anymore immediate needs.

This weeks pick-ups:

Brooks Brothers Burgundy Calf Loafers 12D $149: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...9817&rd=1&rd=1

AE Park Avenue Burgundy Calf 12D $119 (Look for these on here in a week or so if they don't fit):

Not my size, but these Grenson masterpieces might be a buy for someone:

i like how Bidder 5 bids up my proxy all the way to my actual bid, then stops.

http://cgi.ebay.com/1085-JOHN-LOBB-B...QQcmdZViewItem

twice :
once when i bid 500, he bid up incrementally to 500, matched it, then stopped. never went over it.

i place another bid at 550, he bid up to 550 , matched it , then stopped.
pure coincidence and unknowledgeable bidder
or
shill ?

If he is a shill I'd be interested to know how he knows how much you bid. That info isn't avaliable to anyone other than the bidder.

Why are you bidding so early in the auction???

>>Why are you bidding so early in the auction???

exactly right. Why not use a free, open source sniper:

http://www.jbidwatcher.com/

While there are some outlier cases where it makes sense to bid early on ebay, 99% of the time you should bid in the last 15 seconds of the auction.

Granted, as a seller...I love it when people bid early

Even the seller shouldn't know your top bid, so I'm not sure that makes him a shill.

BTW, people like to stop on round numbers, which is why I tend to bid 51.53 or somesuch, instead of $50.

Yeah, same here - it's kind of the same strategy many people use on game shows like the Price is Right. I've won many auctions by mere pennies by doing this.
