Cool Shoes, Paraphernalia & Desiderata - Page 349

Newbie here, I've been reading for the last week or so. I used to buy J&Ms, met a styleforum member on fatwallet who educated me on the relative merits of J&M vs. AE, found a nice deal on these AE drydens http://www.shoes.com/product.asp?p=5...riant_id=80564 for about $160 using a 35% shoes.com coupon...now wishing I'd bought a couple more AEs using the coupon. However, a week ago, I wasn't really in position to evaluate if that was a great deal. Anyhow, I'd like to add 2-3 pairs of shoes for suits but I'm in no real rush...the journey of learning more about shoes has been and will continue to be fun. I work with a lot of very conservative wall st. investment banks, so I'll be looking for fairly conservative shoes. I have my eye on these santoni FAMs: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...3834&rd=1&rd=1 which to my uneducated eye, look gorgeous. The recent posts around the varying workmanship of the FAMs (its beyond me why santoni would dilute their brand) has me worried. What would a fair price be for these shoes? btw, I have access to all the nyc shops, sales and a nordstroms, so if I can find a similar deal at a store, that would be my preference (return policy, fitting, etc). Finally, I'm thinking about seeing if I can drum up a barter for wine. I have a lot of fine wine that has significantly appreciated in value..think I'll find any takers here?

both are good. the santoni's are better, and the price seems to be really, really, really good for santoni FAM, even if it is a lower level FAM.

<<...the price seems to be really, really, really good for santoni FAM, even if it is a lower level FAM.>> thanks for the reply...well yes, but no one has bid yet. At what price level does this not become a good deal? I'm sure posting here will cost me the shoes (readers of this forum may bid), but I'd rather be a little more educated around the value than win the shoes this time around. are there questions I should ask the seller?

i'll say $300.

kronik - you have too many shoes. if you bought these, you'll just end up selling them again. you know i'm right.

kronik, it would be a shame for one of us to cost the other money. Let me know if you are definitely going to bid these and I'll drop out. As I said, I'm in no rush...

I was planning on sniping them but frankly, NoVa is probably right. I have a shoe that's very similar only it's a wingtip and it's Barker Black (with a skull medallion). I was thinking this more conservatively-styled shoe might have a little more longevity but .. I don't really need another light brown.

They're all yours.

Ask seller why the photo of Fatto o Mano label is from completely different shoes?
I am sure it is a mistake as these Santonis r not FAMs.

The FAM pic is there by mistake, those look to be from the midrange Goodyear welted line. Retail is about $600 or so. Keep in mind that these are just as nice, and even better than some of the FAM's. They are great shoes, I'd pay up to about $250 for them.

Andrew is right, I talked to him and he said he accidentally posted FAM. The $899 retail is not correct either.

Just grabbed these -

I was thinking - "hey I need some black loafers." Went online, and found these with three minutes left in the auction.

yes, he emailed me back and said it was a mistake. again, nice catch as this would have caused me a lot of aggravation had I won.

The shoes are still a very good deal, so I wouldn't write them off completely.

I sent another note to the seller, and they are blake stitched. Have to respect the seller...a lot of people would have said "I'm not sure". I'll be looking to do business with the person.

andrew, I really enjoyed your intro article on shoe construction but the links for the pictures are broken. Do you want me to host the images?
