You definitely could be right.

The seller is very responsive though.

When I asked if they are shell cordovan, he said he didn't know.

Check out his other stuff, some very interesting:

But he didn't say so until asked. And it even says "cordovan" in the title. What if you hadn't asked?

Cordovans and other interesting shoes

I'll say I'm 75% confident they're not shell cordovan. In one of the pictures I can see what I suspect are calf creases.

My bid is in on these RL Polo Carlson's at Grapevinehill. Seller claimes they are Made in England, and they stood by this after I asked them to double-check the shoes. Doubt they are C&J at a MSRP of $345. Maybe Sanders? I thought the Carlson's were all made in Italy...

You're right.

I'll just say that he is responsive to Email questions.

I Emailed him a question, and he answered it immediately, and posted it.

It seems like many here on SF think that the boots are calf and not cordovan. If so, then his reserve is probably on the high side.

I would guess more people know cordovan as a color than as shell, don't you think?

Yes, you're probably right, and when you see shoes on Ebay advertised as Cordovan Whatevers, generally they are referring to color.

Most but not all sellers of Shell Cordovan know what they have, and will mention it in their ad.

^ A little ambitious?

Decent BIN on reconditioned Alden cordovans 9.5D: http://cgi.ebay.com/ALDEN-SHELL-CORD...QQcmdZViewItem

Belts OK in this thread? People were looking for suede belts to go with their suede kicks.

Nice NWT RL Made in England dark brown suede belt - size 38 or cut it down to a 34, 32 : http://cgi.ebay.com/95-NWT-POLO-RALP...QQcmdZViewItem

Allen Edmonds center-stitched medium brown suede belts, guy has 32 and 40+ (which could be cut down), also black suede ones in multiple sizes:

Well I wish him luck of course, but that seems a bit much. Anyway, as they say any publicity is good publicity.

Yup

There was a member or former member of this Forum that seemed to ask a very high price for an especially priceless pair of boots.

And he seemed to really believe in that "any publicity is good publicity", maxim.

And eventually he got his price, sort of
