Here's an intriguing pair of RLPL oxfords that are presumably made by EG, yet don't closely resemble any EG model in their catalog.

http://cgi.ebay.com/RALPH-LAUREN-PUR...QQcmdZViewItem

Floating medallion, six-eyelets, and a most interesting interrupted strip of broguing along the quarters.

Does anyone know the EG last that these (RLPL Fairfax) would be on? 89? 888?

I don't think EG uses 888 for their RLPL models. Probably 89. Fairfax was briefly discussed yesterday on the Men's Clothing forum

Mackay is on the 888. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but the toe appears slightly more chiseled than the Parson, which GVH is also selling. My guess would be 888. Perhaps someone who regularly visits the Mansion can weigh in.

OK I may be wrong but I thought it was 808 (a slightly different version of 888 used for RLPL shoes) ?

are these shoes a good buy if i can get them at around this price? they obviously have significant wear, but it looks like they have aged well (or perhaps better than if they were new?).

Meh. The soles have been replaced so they've seen a fair amount of wear. I really don't care much for the Byron, despite the fact that I am wearing a pair in Chili as I type this. They are decent, but rather inelegant, shoes.

That being said, if this size is difficult to find and you like them I don't think that you could go wrong at this price. If it were me (10.5D's), I would hold out for a nicer pair for maybe double that price.

Question about Edward Green's sizing: I have a UK 8.5 for C&J's last 348. Is it possible to tell which UK/US size Edward Green I will have?

i would say probably, and i emphasize probably, size 9/9.5D.

I wear an UK 9.5E in the C&J 337 last and a 10/10.5D in the EG for RLPL 89 last.

The 348 last is somewhat like the 337, but there are supposedly some differences. I can't remember which is slightly bigger or slightly smaller.

Thanks for your answer. I happen to know that the 337 last is slightly larger (0.5 at most) than the 348 last.

The Grant is also on the 888 last, so it's sometimes difficult to know whether the last for a particular shoe is 89 or 888. I can go 1/2 size down on the 89 last , so it can be important to know.
