Cool Shoes, Paraphernalia & Desiderata - Page 222

Well, the cat's out of the bag.

Who wants to venture a guess on their size?
They look normal size but I think someone is going to get screwed on this one. All their other auctions that are fr more than 1 pair of shoes they state how many pairs of shoes you are getting and the brands. Remarkably, on this one they do neither. I doubt it will now go about $200 or so as those recent bidders are obviously forum members/lurkers and I am sure that some doubt has now creeped in. I was ready to snipe $201 and I just deleted it. Way too risky.

So it doesn't sound like I'm lecturing folks, let me add that I too seriously considered -- even briefly planned on -- bidding on this auction. It's the power of Lobbs, I tell you!

If bargainland rated the shoes a 3 out of 5 stars I can't image how bad they must really be. I also wouldn't be surprised if they showed up with 1 shoe each, exactly as shown. I do like that darker reddish-brown one in the front though.

Hey, "Don't blame the platypus!"

That ebay allows this seller to do business is pathetic.
As someone said earlier, it really is roll of the dice with the Platypus. . . you might get one shoe. If they arrive in pairs, then you're hoping at least one pair is in your size. Based on feedback, it seems like its totally hit or miss as to whether you'll ever receive anything. If you don't receive anything, then its a crapshoot as to whether you get refunded. I'm actually hoping a forum member wins the auction, just to hear how it plays out.

Judging by the outsole length and width these are US 7.5 possibly even US8.

What do they worth really? Are they really C&J?

These are undoubtedly C&J. Shop Kanvas is a reputable (albeit often somewhat high-priced) eBay seller and wouldn't, I believe, misrepresent their merchandise. These shoes were made for the Baldessarini Boss line by C&J and differ somewhat from any of their stock self-branded shoes. They resemble the Dartmouth--also on the 318 last--although that shoe has 3 eyelets and is not available with a double sole. They also somewhat resemble the Handgrade Stanley with its 2-eyelets, but the Stanley is on the 337 last and is not available with double sole. They do appear to be made to Handgrade standards--at least in part. So they're a sort of C&J hybrid shoe, having some of the features of the Dartmouth and some of the Stanley. From the picture and description, they do appear to have a double sole. I have a pair of C&Js on the 318 last, and I really like it. It has a just slightly chiseled toe and is pretty sleek without looking over the top in this regard.

You're right, I believe, about the size: I'd call them 7.5D US, not 7. But not 8 either. If the fit looks right, the price seems fairly reasonable for shoes of this quality. C&J regular grade shoes typically go for about $425 in the US (less than this from P Lal); Handgrades go for $550 to $600 (but again less from P Lal). With a BIN price of $339 and a "make an offer" option, I'd offer something on the order of $275 and perhaps work from there. If you really like the shoes and they fit, getting them for around $300 with shipping would be very good for shoes of this quality.

If they were in pairs I was gonna bid well over a grand and not expect to win it. Even used lobbs always go for over $200 so absolute worst case you could resell them and break even. And maybe one would have been in my size and the rest would have paid for it. If they were in matched pairs....

I'm impressed at your proposed bid!

But I guess that's part of the "Platypus's" charm. You don't know if you might be getting 5 pair of gorgeous shoes(including at least 2 JL's), or 5 single shoes that are beat up!

There's 20 minutes to go and I hope someone on SF wins so we can get a final report.

BTW: #1 What do you think the other 3 shoes are? Do they look high dollar English?
#2 I'm sorry if I let the cat out of the bag Re: this auction, but what's the chances it would have slipped right through? I'll bet you that the Platypus gets as much traffic as any site on Ebay!

The "Grab Bag of Shoes" auction ended at $412,77!

"Tigerlilly1901" seems to be the winner... Anyone knows if this is a forum member?

Would be interesting to know how this turned out for the buyer...
$412!! I would not have gone that high but best of luck to the buyer.
