Sounds almost like a size 13. Measurements are much more important than the marked size.

I know nothing about this seller. I feel that the Zegna's I have run a half size big, if that. I believe that the Zegna shoes I have are made by another manufacturer so that may change things slightly.

Yeah...this could be a helluva deal (not my size). They're Alfred Sargent Pall Malls, from the AS Premier Exclusive line (Sargent's best) and sell at Pediwear for about $340 US ex VAT, plus shipping. They have channeled soles and are a fine shoe. Nice wholecut black balmoral--a good shoe for more formal occasions. Note width: seller says "EE+ extra wide." I doubt that they're that wide, since they are a UK F, which corresponds to a US E-width--wide, but not extra wide I imagine. Not the most elegant last, unfortunately, but still a very decent shoe.

Seller seems to not understand British sizing at all.

I find that the norm not the exception.

And much of that is probably because it is hard to understand.

I have particular trouble with the widths. For instance on EGs 8.5/9 means 8.5 UK and 9 US size. Than you have a D. If that is a UK sourced EG it is a narrow......if that is a US sourced RLPL that is a medium. What about the Saks US sourced EGs??? Are they marked D for narrow or D for medium?

John Lobb sells their shoes in the US simply with the UK sizing. That I can understand. Kiton sells theirs with the Italian idea of UK sizing. That I can understand.

It is the maybe, maybe not branding that is difficult. And if it is difficult for us, it is near impossible for the average Ebay seller who really doesn't know what they have.

What would you compare them to?

Top of the line Florentine cordwainer and mentor of Daniel Day-Lewis in his shoe-making apprenticeship days. Mainly bespoke. Would probably compare with guys like Scafora in quality and handwork--which is to say a lot of both. Probably better than almost all well-known Italian brands except for Lattanzi, Scafora, and a couple of others. Would beat the hell out of Berluti RTW, StefanoBi, Ferragamo....

Very impressive! I'm going to follow them. It brings up the old question. I wear a size US 11D. What size Bemer do you think would work. I've gotten European sized shoes that were 45's and they were slightly big. 44's are always small.

Do you know how Bemers would run on a typical Bemer last? I suppose I could get a 45, but I hate to have a loose shoe.

The answer might be to go down to my local Neiman Marcus in the Galleria, Houston. I doubt they would have Bemers, but I could probably try some similar Italian shoes. Lattanzi, Scafora, if they have them.

I've never heard of any retail store or otherwise selling shoes by Stefano Bemer in North America. I'd be surprised if anyone does. I have had the impression that you pretty much needed to head for Florence to see his stuff.

Good excuse to visit Florence, for Bemer and Mannini..and Bugelli...and...
