No, it's not fair. He specifically picked the "New: In Box" tag for the search description. He should have selected "Used". Although I notice that he just changed it and expanded the description, so the fraudulent no longer applies.

Fvck that, greekgeek sold a pair of NOS Brantley in the same size last year for less than what this seller is asking: http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=86192

Man, this is the second good C&J find for super cheap that I've had in a week. I'd buy these and try to flip them in the B&S if I had any confidence that anyone that visits the B&S was actually buying anything at all anymore.

I actually saw those for a friend of mine. The seller is scamming people. He lists them as "New in Box," but he manages to hide the fact that they have been worn deep in the auction... Buyer beware.

Vass Chukkas on P2 last, EU 43, Cognac Scotchgrain w/ Goyser stitching. If these were my size, you would not be reading this.

I must still be on a learning curve because I really don't understand why you'd pay $650 for those. Would you really look at those twice if they weren't made by Vass?

Yes, I would consider these regardless of maker. I like the color, the grain, the goyser stitching and even the last shape which I find appropriate for a chukka boot (maybe not so much for a dress shoe). Would I pay $650 for them if they were not Vass (or JL or EG)? Most likely not. The fact that they are Vass indicates to me that they are very well-made, using top notch materials. I find value in that.

The seller is also a member here, who I have both bought and sold to. Excellent person!

I would guess it is because he looked at the pictures and has familiarity with Alden's offerings.
