When we first moved to Boston in the early 60's my Dad's first job was selling shoes at French Shriner. After I grew up and attempted to buy good shoes he would occasionally mention the brand. I ignored him. I din't know a Goodyear welt from Bridgestone Tire. I wish he'd specified shell cordovan back then. I suffered through HH BRown, plasticized Bostonians, really cheap English shoes, etc., mangling my dogs. I'd have been a shell collector much sooner.
