Huh. Guess my eBay sense was off on this one -- I definitely defer to your judgment here. It seems pretty clear that they were hardly worn, certainly not outside. They look as good as new, no wear on the soles. I wouldn't have paid $550 without the cashback, but with it, seemed to me like a good price.
In a relative sense, I think you're right. They have very little wear and plenty of life left in 'em. Compared to paying retail, it's a great deal. But suede often fares very poorly on eBay, as whacked mentioned, and brand new EGs in calf can often be had for $500-$525, at least in the common sizes. The PL EGs have, in the not-too-distant past, fallen below $400 during the GVH blowouts; just the other day GVH listed a new pair of black captoes for something like $479 BIN. So the suede pair did extremely well, considering they're used and in a relatively unpopular material.
Quote:Just out of curiosity, what would you think a good price on those would be (for us thrifty SF'ers, that is)?
For the suede pair, I'd have considered $375 or less a good price. So if the buyer got 30 percent off, he still did pretty well. But I don't think the shoes should have been listed as new, and think they'd struggle to command such a premium if they were listed as used. (Well, if the cashback thing weren't in play, at least.)
