Polo RL is often made in Italy as well.

I'm not sure this is correct. Yes, they come in a purple box. That does not make them Purple Label. In fact, if you look at the RL web site, the only men's shoes ever called Purple Label are the Edward Green made shoes. The Purple Label name is not attributed to these shoes. They are simply in a purple box.

Purple box, and the Ralph Lauren in script on the insole and sole. That is Purple Label branding.

Here's the same shoe (different colors, but same model): http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/i...entPage=family http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=170240277161 In the ebay auction, the shoes clearly have the Ralph Lauren script. You can't tell in the picture on the RL web site, but they are clearly not marked as being Purple Label on the RL web site.

Who cares what RL calls them. They are only middling quality

Those have gone around a few times, though neither the condition or the price seem to improve much with each rotation.

I'd want to pet it all of the time if I wore that.

Did you mean to quote the paw, or is this how you feel about well worn EG's?

I sort of like these vintage grey suede shoes.

It looks a little over-stuffed - like it was a drowned otter, bloating in the hot sun, before it was taxidermied.
