Is there anything portnoy won't buy?

These are interesting, but honestly, who would buy these? Was Ralph really looking to make RLPL lose money?

I agree on the rip-off, but how do you know they're not shell?

Argh. Someone snapped up the RLPL Grants I had my eye on. Starting bid was $499.

with the 20% live discount for BIN purchases, i'm not surprised he pulled the trigger. they would have been $500 that way, and this shoe probably had quite a few snipes in it.

Probably because the handwriting says "Mens Espresso Scotch Grain", and doesn't say cordovan or kruppe anywhere? It's possible to have scotch grain shell cordovan, but I don't think this is it.

most firms would advertise that they're shell cordovan if they used it - it's worth more and you would want the customer to know.

Also, iirc, $1300 was the price for TB calf (I think that's what Socal paid). I haven't heard anything about TB shell cordo prices, though you would expect it to be higher.

Ugh good point. Completely forgot about the 20% cashback.

The other reason is because they're almost certainly made by Tricker's (I think there was a discussion somewhere about this), and I'm 99% sure that Tricker's espresso scotch grain is calf.

I saw it after I had posted. Thanks for the follow up.

Indeed. Just look at them, they are clearly scotch grain calf. The only textured cordovan I've ever seen is here , and as you can see they have a totally different sheen and texture to them. The fact that, as NoVaguy indicates, I know the shoe in real life is, of course, the other part.

If I hadn't just bought a pair of PS ricard's I would buy these in a heartbeat. Couldn't justify at over 600, but at 475 I'm almost reconsidering my PS's. Actually, that's probably ridiculous.

Still, if you all haven't seen the pictures of these on blackbird, the color is spectacular.
