The seller is a long-standing Style Forum member. One of his specialties (depicted in several threads) is refinishing shoes to a very high standard.

Use the eBay "Ask seller a question" link to inquire about giving the shoes a darker finish. I can't speak for him. But the shoes, the materials, and the requisite skills are all in the same place at the same time. It couldn't be much better than that.

I suppose it would help if you were the auction winner!

I did e-mail Ron. I could handle the color and might be able to darken them slightly by using a darker polish anyway.

pulled my trigger on these,
they are not corrected grain i guess since they are very old Churchs, am I making the right guess?

You are correct, these appear to be made from an exotic hide of some sort...the auction claims Ox and that does seem highly likely. Nice score!

Here is an intersting shoe related item. Probably would be alot more interesting with a lower opening bid however.

I wonder if that was the last time bal boots were called "up-to-the-minute style."

IWC, probably thirties or forties, looks a bit like a Cartier Tank Américain. Seems to be in a sorry state, though, with broken crystal, and no pic of the movement. The bid now is something like $200 incl. fees. Might be worth a try, if you get pics of the movement and have a good watch repairman at hand.

There have been a few vintage Asprey watches on ebay. Does anyone have any opinion on them?

If you show a pic of the watch or better yet the movement, I will gladly give you my opinion. A lot of non watch luxury branded vintage watches used quality movements. Abercrombie and Fitch in particular, had some wonderful chronograph's made for them back in those days.

as an example, from a watch purists perspective, this is a frakenwatch piece of crap
