from what i've seen, church's is roughly AE/Alden quality, maybe a little better. not better than C&J, though. so why pay double the AE/Alden retail price? but at $125, which is below AE prices on ebay for boots (and this is a style AE hasn't made in a decade, although I think alden puts out a similar style), it's a solid move.

and this pair doesn't look corrected grain - for whatever reason, church's is enamored with the coated stuff. but they do put out a few full grained options and those would be the styles i would look for.

and of course, it's a educated guess as the provenance. they could be barker's for all i know.

The soles look a lot like some of the Church's Custom Grade's that I have from the same era and the leather does not look to be polished cobbler as far as I can tell.

When in Italy, I went to a Church's store and had a nice chat with the salesmen there. I told them I sold AE, not quite as nice as Church's. The salesman replied, "they are the best" with his quick Italian accent. Needless to say, I had to disagree. They did have a sharp pair of shell cordovan oxfords though, only 800 Euro.

Something about those Grensons just cannot compare to the masterpiece line- I really don't care for any of those models.

I hear they increase virility.

hmm and I'm assuming they are rather "un-sleek"/blobby like AEs as well based on the photo, no?

i think these are sleeker, but that's a matter of aesthetics. for me, the AE lasts are a feature, not a bug. I wear denim a lot, and AE's go better with denim than most other brands - which is why you see AE quite a bit in S&D. I like the 360 heel and the wider sole. Functionally, there's really no difference.

the sole is what made me think they were churchs/cheaneys. but barker's also does a very similar sole, and i don't have comparison photos of nail patterns available. i don't think they are EG, JL, Grenson, Sargents or Tricker's, or even Loake or Sanders, so that eliminated a lot of sources.

but northampton's shoe business is notoriously incestous, so it's possible it could be anybody doing contract work.

Perhaps to labelking's liking. Not sure if it's a good deal since I'm not the biggest consumer of rare animals.

Is that even legal? I guess it would match my Siberian tiger fur scarf.

well, its already in the US, so there woudl be no import/export issues. i know california has extra rules, so you might want to look into that, but otherwise, i think you would be fine. the worse that can probably happen is that they may get confiscated at some point.

Awesome 1930 Abercrombie & Fitch knee boots.

Think of the adventures you and Teddy Roosevelt could have together in these boots!

The shapes seem a bit odd, but not too bad if you like them.

Thread Starter
LK, there are some Sullivan Powell sealed cigarettes and Fribourg & Treyer snuff in original packages on ebay. I was posting my daily roundup and my post didn't go through.
