Great stuff. Reminds me of hollandaise sauce with a potato, rather than egg, base.

Ha, this was the thing that jumped out at me too, skimming through these pages (btw, impressive feasts, gentlemen!).

I attempted the Robuchon potatoes too recently, and didn't work out as well as I had hoped. I think the main reason was the mass produced butter I used. Contributed little flavour and no colour, although the texture was probably approaching the desired.

Never thought of it that way... Clearly not something you want to have a plateful of, but it's delicious with pretty much anything.

Spatlese - I didn't know this could actually turn wrong. Potatoes, butter and milk - that stuff always tastes good

Oh, don't get me wrong gdl203, I don't think mine were awful by any stretch; like you say, potato, milk and a whack of butter can only result in goodness. My expectations might have been too high but I'm actually going to try it again this weekend if I can locate some better butter!

This is what me and my wife made:

brined turkey slathered in herb butter
whipped sweet potatoes with cardamon
anadama bread
green beans
pumpkin cheesecake
sausage and raisin stuffing
roasted potatoes with cipollini onions

also served a pecan pie that was brought by a guest.
Booze: Hogue riesling, MacMurray Pinot Noir, Warre's '99 LBV

What I have been eatings for the last few days - salads.
