The official thrift/discount store bragging thread - Page 597

At thrift shop 2 hours ago:

2 pair of Florsheim Shell Cordovan wingtips in my size both for $9.99 each. Black pair is gently worn, burgundy pair was recently resoled with average wear. Also a North Face Jacket in XL that I'll list on ebay for a modest profit in the next three days.

Can I brag about thrifting absolutely nothing? Because that's all I find anymore.

Found a really cool pair of Stuart Holmes shell cordovan black plain toes in really nice shape. A tad dry but I'll condition them tomorrow. Had not heard of the brand but they are very well made. I had never seen black shell in person before, it has shades of brown and burgundy in the leather...it's very cool

Saw a Brooks Brothers tux today in the new salvation army select in greensboro today. I'm not a flipper and it wasn't in my size, so it's still there if anyone's interested. About a 40 (at a guess- didn't fit me and I didn't spend much time looking for a tag), SB, Shawl, with pants and waistcoat.

Came across a cool plaid Oxxford sportcoat today that fit me well, $5.99. Finally found two very small moth bites on the elbow. They could have been unobtrusively sewn easily enough, but with all the stuff I have I don't need to get things I have to talk myself into. So I left it. Ah, well.

This is the one I was thinking of, but there are other mentions. Just do a search for hermes scarf ties in Men's Clothing.

I found a single RLPL shirt in a vast sea of Polo RL stuff at a moving sale today. Pity, I'll bet there were more, but I showed up a bit late at 3pm, whereas the sale opened at 8 am. I walked up the driveway to see two women completely attacking a rack of men's clothing. I saw one pull a shirt out and I glanced and saw the RLPL tag - at first thinking it was a Hunt Club, but then saw that it was indeed a RLPL. My heart sank for a moment, until she put it back. I then swooped in and nabbed it. Women in the men's clothing has been pissing me off more and more lately. Really, they'll give me a wierd look for looking at women's clothing (usually at the Goodwill looking for misplaced men's items) but they can tear through the men's clothing with no problems? Ugh. Most are usually only there to flip anyway. If you're going to flip, at least stick to your own stuff.....

I just found this forum and you guys inspired me to go out and look around, tell me how I did my 1st day

All dress shirts, all long sleeve all 100% cotton

3 - Brooks brothers(1 in great condition, 1 in good condition, 1 with damage $5 to make perfect fit and otherwise great condition)
1 - Tommy Hilfiger
1 - Lands end (perfect condition/perfect fit)
2 - Nordstrom (perfect condition & fit)
1 - Charles Tyrwhit (a little big but nice)

I passed on a black Collezioni but I think I'll go back tomorrow and buy it

I spent almost $30 plus I'll spend another $5 on the damaged shirt, & tomorrow another $4 for the Collezioni
Still need to learn what to look for but I'm very surprised at the quality of these shirts and very happy with them.

hmm in my humble opinion most of that is no good,BUT if you like it thats all that matters.on a side note two of my fave sweaters are made by Brunello Cuccinelli and the other a Hilfiger that cost one tenth of the Brunello (thick thick cardigan) so yeah sometime the price and name dont matter as long as you are happy with what you got..from a "GRAIL" point of view however they are very meh (if you like shirts look for Thomas pink,RLPL like Nataku mentioned,Canali etc)

Driving a few hours away tomorrow to visit some friends with my wife, so we're leaving early and visiting at least a dozen thrift stores on the way, possibly more on the way back Saturday, fingers crossed for nice scores in my size.

I ran into a woman like this last week, walking the men's aisles with a cart filled with clothes. Of course, she was only picking out the biggest, ugliest Hawaiian short sleeve button-ups, so it might have been her first day as a flipper.

Didn't do too bad today. I scored two camel hair jackets, one in navy blue and one in black, that fit like they were tailored for me. I saw the slightly torn pair of AEs again, with the price cut in half. It's so tempting, but I have to keep telling myself I'll find better.
