Found a few good things this week after a bit of a hiatus due to a busy work schedule. A cool Zegna SC with the best pattern matching I've ever seen and a few nice shirts and polos as pictured. Also not pictured, a Brioni SC, a Zegna SC and a pair of Florsheim Imperial Longwings. I think I should buy lottery tickets. The Brioni was $9.99. When I got home and went through the pockets I found $6 worth of stamps!

What a great cloth on the Zegna. Does it fit?

I don't score at Goodwill often, but occasionally I find some gems.

That's a gem alright. Sometimes one find makes all the looking worthwhile.

I stopped by a shop today and came up dry. There was a nifty twill sportcoat in a lightish brown, but the lining wasn't up to snuff.

I'm glad to see you haven't foresaken the thrifting life, Alan. I was getting worried.

Being a thrifter is a bit like being a carny--so many secrets the straight world could scarcely imagine. And, of course, the old life is always slipping away. I'm happy to see a modest increase in prices out here; really seems to make a difference with the flippers. Now if only the donations would start flowing again.

^Thanks, pejsek. After a year in a new city I still don't feel like I have a really good feel for the thrifting here yet. I don't have as much time to devote to it, either. I need to get on a more regular schedule and a wider circuit. Still, I found a lot more in Birmingham. I don't know if it's the location, the recession or me.

Hey guys,

I am so glad everyone introduced me to the joy of thrifting.

This week so far, I found a perfect blue french cuff ike behar shirt, a Hickey freeman light blue sport coat, and polo plaid shirt with elbow pads, and I went to banana republic and picked up 8 pair of socks that I saw listed on here.

tomorrow is another day!

edit**** today was good. Found a nice white herringbone shirt, a pair of brown captoes and some awesome baby blue cords.

Man, I never see anything near the quality of what you some of you have been finding. I saw a Polo three button suit jacket once, no pants, but that's about it. I did see a three piece suit from Harry Rosen I might try on, but other than that, most of the clothes aren't worth the money.

Airey & Wheeler rtw lightweight cotton poplin safari jacket--epaulets, four bellows pockets, half belt in back, etc. etc. $15.49 A year ago it would have been five or three dollars, but, again, who's complaining?

Must say, I love the slogan: Tropiccadilly.

I have seen the same thing. I have gotten the rythmn of the discounting in my main thrift shop, so ususally the nice things survive one round of price cuts then the flippers buy it all.
Good thing they still dont know the real gems and price them low still

I actually found a Chan suit (MTM I assume) seemed to fit like a 46R but the sleeves were about two inches too long and they had working cuffs so I left it there. I've not had the best luck thrifting lately. Ah well it goes in cycles it seems.

Just before this I picked up three Turnbull Asser shirts and four Brooks Brother slimfit button downs.

Stumbled across a nice pair of RLPL by EG today. $25 is a bit more than I like to pay for used shoes, but for this quality and considering they were in excellent condition I didn't mind. Black half-brogued oxfords.
