The Goodwill chain here in the Twin Cities does this once or twice a year. Fill a bag for a certain price though I forget what the price was. They give you these small-ish paper bags made specifically for them (have Goodwill printed on the side) though. Smaller than your average paper grocery bag if I recall correctly. The cashier crammed so much in there the last time the bag split open. She let it slide though since I'm there just about every day.

The prices I quoted are for Goodwill which is the biggest chain with 20+ stores over the metro area. Unique Thrift, Savers and ARC Value Village are pricier. Suits from 24.99 up to $100+. Ties from $8 to $25. Sportcoats at $15+. It's ridiculous.

The Goodwill store that Dahl5yankees mentioned the other day put out 4 Armani Collezioni suits out a month or so ago for $74.99 for the jacket and $49 for the pants. Each time it came around for that color to go half price (then $1.49 a couple days later), they'd pull them and re-tag them. They sat around forever. Stupid.....

This is where they get you in Austin. At the boutique Goodwills, the shirts and pants are 12.99, for the most part. And they never have sales.

It's gonna get cold here tomorrow - at least for a few days - so fall and winter wear was on my mind.

I did well with the last one of these I sold so I thought I'd try two more (I actually left two behind because of condition). I really want to say that the fur trim on the first coat is wolf. I've never seen such long fur before. On the cuffs, at its longest, the tufts are probably 5".

Vintage 1960s Pioneer Sportswear wool hunting jacket. It has a neat game pocket on the back.

Does anyone know what union tag this is? This is all that's visible.

There's one in Hamden here in CT, but it's like 90% furniture/kids toys/books, and what clothes there are are about 95% women's and casual clothes.

I think thrifting Christmas is close to the real Christmas when the tax donations come rolling in.

I was wondering about that, not sure if I'll be home then, but will be sure to check the thrifts wherever I'm at.

Your experience is similar to mine (I'm in Austin). Sport coats start at $9.99. We also have GW Boutiques here where SCs may be as much as $19.99. Haven't seen a suit for more than $49.99, but that was a nice flannel vintage Polo in great shape, however I also got an HF, recent, for 24.99. but yes, I'm always astounded when I hear someone on here say they got a SC for like 3 bucks. Never seen any coat in my town for less than $10.

You're doing it wrong :)

Congrats on the AE's, but I like the Florsheim's better!

You guys are lucky. Here in Sydney many of my local spots have shirts starting at $15 & suits at $100+. Highest price i've seen for a suit has been $399 for an old old Armani.

There's a GW here that sells by the pound.  Everything that gets pulled from all the regions GW's goes here, it is insane.  I think it's $1.30/lb

Not usually into Militaria, but was looking at coats this morning, came across this heavy gray thing.  Found the tag in the pocket.  Couldn't believe the date on it.  The thing is in like new condition.  Looks like it was made in Germany but for a US uniform?  It's a light gray twill, have to do some research. Says 1960

Also this, in like new condition too.

Also a few more cashmere sweaters to cover the continent in cashmere (someone beat me to that here) when I get around to it.

Struck out at 4 diff places in LA. What the hell? Stopped by TJ Maxx and saw a crazy nice Corneliani cashmere lined double breasted goose down jacket with leather details. Almost pulled the trigger.

Picked these up cheap. BB wool. BB cashmere. And some socks.

Thanks for the help, guess it's just a three fold!

In the field - is this worth picking up?

But seriously, let me know if you make it out to the W/NW burbs.

That's a really cool piece.  You've got a really good eye/luck for finding those kinds of items.

If you squint hard, I can come close........(Tan or Brown Burgundy, Penny Loafer (weejuns?), size 11.5 or 12)

I picked these up today (these are in the condition I bought them, no polish or shine from me).

Size 12M, italian-made J&M's. Not a traditional penny, but a penny style none-the less.

If these are close enough, I'll give you the same terms I gave you on the JB Britches tweeds......

bytor, I had no idea you were also from the greater Chicago area! We really need to do a meet up soon with all the regulars.

Nothing too cool as far as clothes go, but I thrifted myself a Kindle in great condition. Super pumped, maybe now I will actually finish books I start.

I'm curious how much everyone pays on average for specific items.

TLDR: How much do you guys usually pay for sport coats?

Sounds like you're PDX, or Salem maybe? Eugene area is much better pricewise, though the pickings of course are lower yield. GW is typically $5-7 per SC, STV $4.27, SA $3.99. VV here is typically higher though not as atrocious as up north. Was just at a Salem GW last weekend and had to plow through about 100 sport coats, nothing below 12.99, most the same ones I saw months ago. Everything horrid, of course. They just don't get it. Meanwhile my area thrifts keep a decent rotation of maybe a dozen or so at the lower price point.
