Camera guys, there is something in here i don't know if this thread has ever seen. i haven't been here too long but i would be shocked if it was! my ultimate grail and then some!

i tried to get the Spoiler to work but i gave up. I've never posted this much before and know how people feel about not using the spoiler. so if someone could tell me how to just put all this in a spoiler for next time that would be great! sorry in advance. it is all great stuff though i think.

i don't know anything about this brand. never even heard of it before. any help would be welcome! If its rare and valuable awesome, if its DSW still awesome because they fit perfectly and i have wanted a pair for so long

also been wanting a pair of these!

J. McLaughlin 335$ new on their site. 3$ for me. actually navy but i was taking these outside...

bad ass barbour tweed hunting coat. all the bells and whistles. like new but from around 2002. seriously warm. lined and feels super water and wind resistant. darker than it shoes because i was taking these outside.

I have been looking for dressy black shoes just like these. and there they were!

tie porn. only the thread worthy ones. picked up some nice Zegna, and BB paisleys and fall patterns as well. the Dolce Punta and the Linen and cotton zegna are both NWT.

I was looking for a nice navy mid length coat for this winter and this popped up. dont know anything about it but it fit perfectly and feels hefty. made in W. Germany. if anyone knows anything about it?... i know some people don't like that collar style but i love it when its popped

Donegal wool shawl. hand made in Ireland. been looking for one of these as well but im not sure about the fit. might be a little boxy. Might be available... basicly a small/medium

A Grail for me! actually deep purple. plum or burgundy. it took me years to get my waxed jacket to look this nice and someone already broke it in for me. tartan lining and all. much nicer IMO than the new stuff they put out.

filson Mackinaw Field pants. like new. 38. probably going to spoo. theses are the nicest heaviest wool pants i have ever felt. unbelievable. really wish these fit.

My absolute grail. i have wanted this since i took a photo class in high school. 50$ total. with bag! i almost had a heart attack.

the body is the least expensive piece here. ONLY about 500$ and up.

In other news, I have been seriously bummed for the past two months since I have been unable to locate my vintage B&L Tortoise Wayfarers.. I LOVED those shades. I was packing for a trip this evening and pulled out a suit for an event that I'll be attending and there they were, still in their RayBan hard case, tucked into the coat's inner breast pocket!

When I first started going to thrift stores, I learned about brands. It took a while to learn what brands were desireable
and which weren't. Then I learned about age. I didn't know that a 30 year old suit isn't worth getting, or a 30 year
old shirt. Then I spent time considering the condition of the clothing item. Then color and style.
Last, I balance the price of the thrift item with it's value.

I noticed that this string of logic rumbles through my mind as I look at clothing to purchase.

I still get that slight rush of adreniline when this criteria all comes together. Also, it's exciting when
you walk toward the thrift store entrance in hopeful anticipation.

It's Fun!

In the news....

A Goodwill store in Naples, Fla., reversed course today and decided to drop grand theft charges against a teen employee who had given discounts to poor customers.
The decision came four days after the store had fired Andrew Anderson, 19, and had him arrested for granting discounts that totaled $4,000. As recently as today, the store defended its actions saying the money could have been better used on Goodwill's other charitable projects.
Goodwill contacted ABC News this afternoon to say that the organization was dropping charges against Anderson.
"After completing our internal investigation we have determined that the individual's actions were not for personal gain, but rather for the benefit of others," the statement read.
Anderson said in an interview with WBBH TV earlier this week that he didn't know what he was doing was illegal. In fact, he says his actions mirrored what Goodwill stands for.
"I wasn't actually stealing," the teen told the Florida station. "Goodwill is a giving and helping company, so I took it upon to myself to be giving and helping because I feel people deserve it."
Anderson was arrested and jailed on Tuesday by Collier County police, but was bailed out for $5,000 the same day, according to police reports.
"The suspect advised us that he never received any money himself," Officer Chris Marotta of Collier County police said. "[He] was cooperative and apologetic. He admitted to the above actions and wishes to repay the store."
Before deciding to drop the charge against Anderson, the organization calculated that the teen cost the store $4,000.
"The thousands of dollars given away could have been used to fund our programs, including our school dedicated solely for youth with intellectual disabilities," the Goodwill statement read.
Anderson and his family could not be immediately reached for comment.

If I can work that out I might just set one up.

You should totally do this.  I did the exact same thing in my Chicago apartment years ago - set up a darkroom in a large closet with no water source.  You don't need the water source right there - once the print comes out of the fixer you can put it into the water tray then carry it into a bathroom tub for the running water...and use one of those retractable clothesline thingers to hang prints over the tub to dry.  Worked perfect for me - in the darkroom I only needed lights and a fan, and I bought the entire setup from a guy off craigslist.

Yeesh - sorry to hear about the feets...but that dresser starts to make up for it - very nice.

Also, can I stain generic wood to make it look old... and nicer? By sanding off whatever coat it has and reapplying a darker stain? I want to get a stool/small table to photo ties/shoes on, and wanted to spruce up the generic wood color.

I bought a plain white shirt from Marshall's for my mannequin, a Van Heusen or whatever it was.  It was like $17, new, and I didn't have to flip a million hangars looking for a pristine used white shirt.  Sometimes you gotta pay retail.

For the mannequin's bow tie, I got the cheapest new pre-tied one I could find on eBay, from a seller who also sold zip-ties (i.e.: pre-tied regular tie) and bought both with free shipping for cheap.  I use both ties (bow tie for sport coats, zip tie for suits) and no fiddling with tying and untying.

I "built" (glued together) a little platform using wood parts bought from Michael's Crafts, stained it (was raw wood), sanded & lacquered a few times.  Looks decent though I haven't listed shoes lately so have not tried it in photos.

Yes, all these things/ideas I swiped from Wes.

Hi new guy here.

Just wondering if anyone has ever gone thrifting in Hong Kong. Moved back here after finishing uni in Canada wondering if this sort of thing has caught on back home.

This might be posted in the wrong thread, if so please point me in the right direction.
