The official thrift/discount store bragging thread - Page 5281

OK. This is getting serious. I feel like I should be starting this post as "Hi, I'm John, and I'm and addict."

Got caught up in the moment at an estate sale this morning.

dude was a compulsive mail order shopper. 14 NWT Pendleton shirts including board shirts, oxfords and more.

Cool wool rich cotton work jacket and 4 ventilated woolrich shirts. Not only NWT but in the plastic.

There were another 25 shirts just like these in the same colors. He also had 25 new, still wrapped beige woolrich tshirts and another 25 identical tshirts folded from the laundry. An oscar de la renta tux. a BB loro piana rain system blazer, 3 BB suits, but all that was priced at pretty much ebay sales price. 3 identical Jos. A Banks leather car coats.....

I also picked up a cool pair of LL Bean knee high waders/ duck hunting boots, look worn once or twice.

While I was questioning his sanity for buying all these things, it occurred to me that I had bought 22 of his shirts and have yet to sell anything.......

Brian.....will you be my sponsor?

Purchased my first pair of Alden Black Wingtip Brogues in my size.  So, I will post pictures of my haul from this morning and the last two weeks.  Several Gant, Eton, BB, Zegna and few other brands worthy of being posted here in the forum.

too many logos set it off for me, is that what's wrong with it?

i'd like to say that what you do is incredibly impressive, spoo.

i was sorting out the clothes i've accumulated and was laughing at how much i have. though you must go through that every 2-3 days, and you document it. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Hit another REI used fear sale this morning. All shoes and boots (except for a grab bag of GoPro parts (seems to be everything but the unit). Many good deals were had, pics later. Time to go pickup the packet for my race tomorrow!

 Spoo. when you say its epic, its pretty epic. Didn't you find, like, 50 Harris tweeds recently? I just hope you weren't pillaging Connecticut....

as for the guy who asked about "the method" on wool, in a word, no. hence the experiment. silk and wool seem to take dye differently, and I have murdered more than one garment to find that out. Reds seem to be the biggest culprit for Oxy. In any event, my experiment is ongoing. early results indicate its going to be Wisk as the clear winner. Only questions are whether any of the spot stain pretreats make a difference, and whether the wisk itself leaves the wool unharmed. Tide/enzyme has proven non-color safe, and vinegar and woolite (regular and dark) seem basically ineffective.

as a footnote, several trou I tested were listed on the bay in a massive lot. They sat for months, maybe a year or more. I literally put them in the soak last night and wouldn't you know, they sold this morning. FML.

In other news, my cognac Manganini suede arrived from Off Fifth. Thanks to ReigningChamp for the tip. unbeatable price! EDIT: more bad news. she shipped the wrong shoes. frown.gif

No problem! smile.gif

Definitely keep it if it fits you. You will fall in love with it. Great color too! I bought mine close to 15 years ago and it's in my general winter rotation. I've thinned my vintage outdoor jacket/vest/parka collection down a ton and this piece managed to make the cut every time.

Had a good day today. Everything except the J. Crew is available.

Shoes. Both need a little cleaning up but the Aldens are in very nice shape. AE Cody (9 1/2 D and Alden Cape Cod Collection Boat Shoe/Mocs (11 D).

RLPL light-weight car coat. Sz L

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Gokey Canvas/leather field bag. Apparently there was another one that I had missed. I'm hoping it was an identical bag and not a duffle/weekender bag as I've been after something like that for over a year.

Got the wife a few things

Pretty thrilled when I saw these, but sadly when I inquired as to if they had the original "Whole Earth Catalog" they said they tossed it out in the 70's. frown.gif Still after that one. I already have copies of these but these are in nice shape and couldn't pass them up for $1. They're scarce these days.

Some eBay currency

RLPL black polo. Sz L

Lululemon spread collar polo. So bummed this is like 2 sizes too small for me frown.gif

J. Crew shawl collar metal clasp fleece cardigan. bounce2.gif

Found this beaut today. Double breasted, peak lapel, gray tweed from the long defunct English Shop in Princeton. It looked liked it fit well in the store, but I'm thinking now that the shoulders might be a little too big. confused.gif Crazy to think this is what used to be sold to college students and the like. The best you get nowadays is a fucking hoody with a college logo splashed across the front.

There were about 10 other PRL 90's power ties, presumably from the same gentleman, and even though those are having a moment, this was really the only wearable pattern.
