i found an Oxxford suit coat in pretty good shape the other day in a GW but the pants were missing. Sort of similar, charcoal with a chalk stripe. Would that have been worth the kop? My impression was that mismatched suits weren't really worth it, most people wouldn't be interested, but I'm way new to this.

If in good shape, the price is right, and blah blah, yes!

^nope. You will do well to leave behind all the loro piana, barba, borelli and fray too. The thread regulars will get on me for just telling you the answer rather than advising you read the thread from the beginning, but screw that. The brands you want are Arrow and Towncraft.

edit: almost forgot. There is one italian shirt maker worth a pick-up...Alfani. I love me some Alfani.

Worth it to Kop? Would you have worn it, then maybe. But most people here wouldn't advocate wearing orphans, especially orphans that are clearly part of a suit like pinstripes.

Hey all!

Been reading a ton but haven't had a lot of time to post. Here are my recent finds.

Pretty neat Crombie (fabric?) coat. No size tag, but fits me (a 42L) with street clothes on. Wish it ever got cold enough to wear it.

PRL Indian Madras. Picked this up on yellow tag at Marshall's. Not sure if I want to keep it. Tagged 44L, but CLEARLY came altered to Marshall's and fits just a little snug at the waist.

Picked up some ties at discounted stores.

T&A x3, HF Silk/Wool x2 -- The T&A were like $11 each after all the discounts.

Isaia 7 Fold x3 (gold one has a cool almost mirror-y finish), N/A

Brioni x 2, RLPL 7 Fold. Brioni's were accidentally on a rack that made them $25. I should have bought more, but the lady was nice enough to give me the price even though I doubt 10 ties were all misplaced on that rack. RLPL was found at Marshall's.

And even the thrift stores finally gave me a few ties.

Charvet, Canali, HB

And some shirts

Truzzi, BBGF, Canali x 4

Oh yeah, and these popped up.

This was probably the craziest buy, just because it was discounted so heavily. I paid 12% of the Off Fifth price, which was already discounted.

Ummm, yes (assuming they are in decent shape).

Anything Brioni is worth picking up at thrift prices.

Nope, in fact most Oxxford blazers and sportcoats are not worth grabbing unless they are pretty recent (new style size/fabric content label and a modern lapel/gorge height) or unless they are a desirable fabric such as 100% Cashmere, Alpaca or Vicuna.

As for me, I finally stumbled onto some stuff worth buying. Bamford & Sons Zegna Cashco velvet blazer, J. Crew Ludlow seersucker blazer, C.P. Company trousers, bunch of Lululemon stuff for the Mrs., etc. Pics to come.

Thanks, all. Confirms my suspicions, and my previous understanding from the thread.

This is interesting. Are you being serious? If so, why do you think so? Do you have more luck reselling these than high-end thrift? (PS, I'll search the thread while I'm at it!)*

*Nevermind, I'm pretty sure I just did the styleforum equivalent of looking up gullible in the dictionary.:)

You'll find that, aside from falling for an easy trick, another thing that new members are known for is coming in and asking whether items are worth buying to resell. That isn't the spirit of the thread. This is a bragging thread for epic finds, personal achievements and general tomfoolery. It is not meant to be a price grid for how to get rich on eBay, there's another thread for that.

People can come down hard on new guys sometimes so it helps to read about 50-100 pages at least and get the feel.

Nat, I love how your "finally" is like a week after grabbing a recent, cashmere Brioni sport coat IN YOUR SIZE. I'd do terrible things to have your luck man.:fonz:
