Hit zero thrifts today - in Louisville for third funeral of the year. Hopefully that old saying about misfortune coming in threes is true, because this is getting rough.

Tried to restore a little normalcy by hanging out at the local mall afterward. Strolled through the Von Maur and saw tons of Vineyard Vines and Robert Graham - it's always interesting seeing what non-thrifters will pay for this stuff new.

It actually snowed here yesterday, so I might get a handful of wears out of it yet. biggrin.gifhappy.gifnod[1].gif

Solid pick up! I have a quilted jacket from the same line and it is a work horse. Looks good with just about anything and perfect for fall/early spring weather.

It's styled after the classic hunting jacket, but I wouldn't use it for that, as I don't hunt, although I'm sure you could, if you were so inclined.

^^

It is for the aspirational hunter.

Even though, as I mentioned previously, I am in the April 2013 No Purchase Club I stopped over at the new Savers during lunch today to see if they had turned their stock over and to search for a tie for the young teenaged son of one of my department managers. Seems he attends a private school in which ties are required but apparently can be of any style, pattern or color. The lad has already professed hatred for his Dad's entire collection of ties but I've seen how his Dad dresses so he may well be correct.

Anyhow, I was looking through the skimpy tie rack and came across this slender Ben Sherman for him. Chinese made but, hey...they invented silk, right? I'm telling her that if the kid hates it, she has to give it back to me!

Then it was bucket list time. The No Purchase Club went out the window on this one. Since it was an "unknown brand, it was only $2.99 instead of the upscale price like the Ben Sherman.

As I picked up the Marinella, one of the Savers staff looked at the tie (she couldn't see the brand) and then looked at what I was wearing (standard dress code work wear, JAB black shirt, Gap khaki dual vent sport coat and dark brown D2 dockers) and asked me...

"So, what brands of ties are popular?"

I was tempted to say, "Oh, Stafford, Nautica, Bert Pulitzer, etc..." but she seemed so sincere that I told her all about
Brioni, Kiton, Barbera, Drakes, and so on... (Click to show)
...NOT!
Instead, I just smiled and said that the ties that I liked probably were not the popular selling ties that people were looking for and eased away to go check out the men's underwear rack.

I went on to locate 2 pairs of flat front Brooks Brothers (346) cords in medium and dark brown in my size but the 4/13 NPC was gnawing at my conscience so I hung them back up and I'm gambling that they will be there on the 1st of May.

Also, I found a pair of sleek, chisel toe, side zip, brown GR by Gordon Rush Chinese made (Not Italian ffffuuuu.gif ) ankle boots that fit wonderfully and were priced under $10. Glued on soles and I couldn't find enough info about them on short notice so I passed. I wish now that I hadn't as they would look quite good under any of the several pairs of slim fitting Levis that I have collected.

Oh well. Maybe next month.

The problem with matching a jacket and pants that were not originally together, is that they may not match in shade.  A fabric based on  lighting conditions, use, and dry cleaning will fade.  It is not just that, even suits were the fabric is from different bolts the shade will differ.   Even if you do find a matching pair of pants on ebay that is the same fabric and style, there is a good chance that the shade of blue will be lighter on one of the two items.  It will not be a perfect match.  I will agree that going back to see if the pants turn up, is a good idea though.

Harris is pretty highly regarded. I would have grabbed them at $65 if they were in nice shape.

Here's my measly find from today. They appear to be vintage. Definitely never worn. Checked the pockets for tags or reciepts and what do you know, I pull the tag out of the back pocket. When was RRL still made in Japan and raw selvedge retailed for $185? I bought my raw RRLs in 2007-ish and I think retail on mine said $250-ish. Can't tell if these are women's or just a really low rise? The front fly is only 2 buttons and the slight flare (though they could be boot cuts which had a slight flare and were popular 10-ish years ago) tell me they are womens while the large back pockets are pretty big for women's jeans and did RRL (or any maker, for that matter) even make raw selvedge women's jeans this long ago (I'm assuming these are pre-2005)?

Great Jacket, I have a similar one from the same line in a Hunter Green that I wear the shit out of during spring / fall...Its fucking tits very similar to urs.Corduroy Collar, and leather piping along the sleeve hems and what not.  Does urs have duel exhaust vent that have snap buttons on em? I really like those.  I just don't have a stock patch on the shoulder like urs.

Nice! I've been eyeing the same jacket, you lucked out on somebody dumping their winter gear during the warm weather / rain storms in guessing. So jealous.

Those might not be pre 2005, last year the raws wear retailing for $220, so $185 a few years back wouldn't be a stretch. Is there a cut and or wash tag inside, or any writing on the pocket bags? Most of the old RRL have the size tag on the inside of the fly, and usually say ringspun denim. I'm guessing these were soon after the reboot?
Yup, here's the tag on the inside back of the fly.

No cut/model tag. No printing on the inside pockets like the newer ones have.

Here is the wash tag. I may have figured out the low rise and cut - does this mean these were made for the Euro market?

Ah balls, yeah I think they're older.

But they're also NWT, which I haven't seen for any of the older RRL on eBay, and RRL always has a boot cut so they should do fine.

The polo Europe tag has always confused me too, but it's on the new stuff too.
It's on these low straights I'm selling too
