Visited a last call today. So much awesome stuff, but didn't cop anything. Good prices, but not flip margins. Kiton, Brioni, Belvest, Isaia, Zegna 15milmil15, even Prada, Tom Ford, and Gucci. I was impressed drool.gif Awesome oxxford cashmere sport coat in tan with check pattern for only a little over 2 bills. It desperately needed a home, maybe should have bought, but can't right now. Anyways, was a refreshing deviation from standard thrift shop fare.

As much as I dream of finding bespoke blah blah blah and five seasons old SW&D, these sweaters and other eBay fodder are actually what I'm thrilled to find in thrifts.  It's by selling these that I can buy whatever the fuck I want at full retail, in my size, with money left over to tailor.

The Attolini jacket is fine. Orgetorix is the master of fashion--we all know that. But the coat doesn't fit. It just doesn't, at least to my eye. It looks too snug, only a bit, but still. A pity. He looked, in my opinion, better in an Oxxford suit that caught my eye long ago because it fit like it was made for him. This coat does not. Feel free to say I'm a dork, but he should see whether his tailor can let it out just a bit.

Now, on to the William Gates jacket...

Bill Gates is known for many--well, maybe just a few--things. Being well dressed is not on the list. The jacket he is wearing in the offered picture is ill-fitting, and that's being charitable. Just because he's rich doesn't mean that he knows how to dress. He looks, looked, way better in an impossible to screw up OCBD and shetland sweater. Warren Buffett, who is tight with Bill and even richer, also does not know how to dress. Neither Gates nor Buffett puts a premium on fashion, certainly less than the average pro athlete whom they could buy and sell a thousand or more times over. Yes, I would have jumped all over that jacket as fast as the OP. Is it a better jacket than Orgetorix's Attonlini that belonged to who knows who? I say no.

Which is to say, Orgetorix and Bill Gates would both look better in less expensive fare that fit them better. And so they really are equals among men. At least, in my book.

Very well-stated! And I agree, the fit on Gates is rubbish! I suppose we can agree to disagree on Orgetorix :P.

Of course we can. That's what this place is best at when it's simmering well, which it has been lately, I think.

Hey LA guys! Hook me up for another time....I went in to LA today and was skunked. Absolutely nothing at all worth buying.

Not asking for your honey hole, just a couple spots that actually are worth driving 100 miles to...

OMG Council Thrift shops are way expensive!

Just a couple, thats all I ask! fistbump.gif

Hans, those Carreras are INSANE. Small fortune, guaranteed.

That's what I thought, but I've only seen a couple of pairs, one of which didn't sell at €34 puzzled.gif

Back from Spootown USA and happy to report we had a great weekend.

Sadly the city thrifting game is not for this country boy, and I only returned with one purchase. A nice pair of Church's cap toe bals.

Did find a pop up flea market in an old abandoned parking garage that had some sweet stuff. Spied a nice Hermes Trench for sale there. Was only able to talk her down to $800. Too rich for my blood, with out knowing for sure it was even real.

Otherwise our trip was great.

We stayed here....for 70% off (which was still a bit pricey)

We ate here....at Spoo's recommendation. I plan to go back there. Would gladly drive the 4-5 hours just to eat there for a special occasion. Thanks Spoo!

We saw this happen....talk about awesome!

Spent the rest of the time doing the usual tourist thing.

Thanks for the comments, guys, but Pug is exactly right. The jacket doesn't quite fit perfectly. It is snug in the middle. And the sleeves are actually a bit long, too - I wore it with the one shirt in my closet that has annoyingly long sleeves, but it wouldn't have worked with any of my other shirts.

It has working buttonholes, and I'm trying to decide whether I'm willing to risk letting my tailor try to shorten the sleeves from the shoulder. He assures me he can do it with no problems, but I've never let him try before.

If only we were equals in more than just that area. biggrin.gif

So one of those RLBL jackets I found the other day had this tag on it,

I initially scoured the store for the trousers to no avail but I had a good feeling about this one, and went back as soon as the store opened the next day.

It still blows me away, even after the last year and a half of thrifting hard, that I can walk into a thrift store 20 min before close and walk out with a suit from last spring that originally retails around $1800, for a cool $26. And the nice part is, it seems that the Black Label line is cut with skinny bastards like me in mind. Even at a 40S, the jackets fit almost perfect and the trousers are slim (they do need to be let down about an inch). I'm not really a fan of black suits, but I figure it's good to have one in case I need to go to a funeral, or possibly a night on the town that requires a sharp, dark suit. I'm still trying to figure out who makes the suits for RLBL though, and my shitty google fu has turned up jack squat.

Suit is 2 button, dual vented with flat front trousers. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif
