I went into terra incognita today for a few flipping items for ebay.

First up, for myself, some patch madras shorts from Old Navy.

For the bay...

Scully western / rockabilly shirt. Tons of praal snap buttons and piping all over.

Two pairs of Dickies. Lighter duty and heavy duty overalls. One is NWT and the other is NWoT/deadstock.

Considering how recently you found that you couldnt have had any alterations done. So, you found a PERFECTLY FITTING Attolini jacket!!!
That's awesome, as is the fit.

Dobbs hat
Attolini jacket (thrifted)
Barbera shirt (B&S)
Brooks Bros tie (outlet)
BB trousers (thrifted)
Peal shoes (clearance)

I dont usually comment on thrift fits, but that is a kick ass fit. Everything looks spot on!

Now if you could only flip it because of the provenance. Unfortunately, it's probably not worth much (you wouldn't believe how much stuff people brought to me as a sports memorabilia writer -- "but this is Mickey Mantle's cigarette lighter!" "DId he use it to hit a home run or sign it?" "No, but it's Mickey Mantle's!" "Sorry, son.") but it's something that SHOULD be.

Although, in this case, I wonder what an appraiser would say. Especially in Seattle or Portland or San Jose. I'm wondering, if it were appraised at $5,000 and you donated it to the LIving Computer Museum or something if you could get, say a big tax break for doing so. Very interesting. Of course they'd have to want it, but who wouldn't? I myself think it's awesome. [on second thought, to claim the value of the donation, you'd have to pay capital gains tax on its acquisition, one would think. They get you both ways. Any lawyers in the house can validate that?]

still, I think it's an awesome story.

That's a fantastic idea about donating it- who knows, maybe it will even give someone a great appreciation for bespoke tailoring? A SFer said that he might want it, and I'm also debating consigning, but all seem to be attractive options. I just want to see it go somewhere that it will be appreciated :)

OK, not to crap on everyone's parade, but...

The Attolini jacket is fine. Orgetorix is the master of fashion--we all know that. But the coat doesn't fit. It just doesn't, at least to my eye. It looks too snug, only a bit, but still. A pity. He looked, in my opinion, better in an Oxxford suit that caught my eye long ago because it fit like it was made for him. This coat does not. Feel free to say I'm a dork, but he should see whether his tailor can let it out just a bit.

Now, on to the William Gates jacket...

Bill Gates is known for many--well, maybe just a few--things. Being well dressed is not on the list. The jacket he is wearing in the offered picture is ill-fitting, and that's being charitable. Just because he's rich doesn't mean that he knows how to dress. He looks, looked, way better in an impossible to screw up OCBD and shetland sweater. Warren Buffett, who is tight with Bill and even richer, also does not know how to dress. Neither Gates nor Buffett puts a premium on fashion, certainly less than the average pro athlete whom they could buy and sell a thousand or more times over. Yes, I would have jumped all over that jacket as fast as the OP. Is it a better jacket than Orgetorix's Attonlini that belonged to who knows who? I say no.

Which is to say, Orgetorix and Bill Gates would both look better in less expensive fare that fit them better. And so they really are equals among men. At least, in my book.

^ fit is everything, well almost everything. Well said.

Visited a last call today. So much awesome stuff, but didn't cop anything. Good prices, but not flip margins. Kiton, Brioni, Belvest, Isaia, Zegna 15milmil15, even Prada, Tom Ford, and Gucci. I was impressed drool.gif Awesome oxxford cashmere sport coat in tan with check pattern for only a little over 2 bills. It desperately needed a home, maybe should have bought, but can't right now. Anyways, was a refreshing deviation from standard thrift shop fare.
