Awesome pickups, especially the glasses.

Hans:

My wife and I just booked our trip to Germany this summer -- ten days in late June -- using Skymiles, so that's kind of thrifted, right? We got one RT ticket each, non-stop from Atlanta to Stuttgart with business class on the return for 80,000 miles, which considering the actual price of that ticket, seems like a steal.

We'll spend a huge chunk of the time hanging around and daytripping from Freiburg, but will also hit Berlin for a few days.  I don't want to blow up your spots, but if you have any spots in Berlin ...

Don't worry, I have absolutely no spots in Berlin biggrin.gif However, I might be down for a meet up somewhere if you two are game. I'll PM you, but my students are still in class until the end of June. I could possibly take a long weekend to Berlin and we could hit a few stores.

 Nice!

I used to have a Frostline down jacket. Actually it was my mom's, but I used it more; and when I outgrew it, she got it back and I moved on to dad's. I'm sure she still has it (along with the one she made for my dad).

Here's a pic of my brother and me modeling them (Christmas 1980 -I'm the taller one):

Thank you for your kind words and your advice.

I have been lurking on this forum for about a year. At the beginning I was signing in with my facebook account.  After making a couple of post, I decided that anonymity is more appropriate, and opened up this account.  What has struck me as odd, there are many people concerned on how to dress well to make a good impression on people.  What are some nice shoes to wear with my nice suit.  But as far as I am concerned having a bad attitude, being arrogant, being rude defeats the whole purpose of making a good impression on somebody.  You might as well wear some old, dirty, square toe shoes. It is the same.  But this idea is totally lost on these people.

I am not offended by these people.  But being new to the Internet, I am a dreamer.  I hope that maybe, somehow my words will click with some people.

But I am also a realist.  I know that the most appropriate response to my last statement should be:  smile.gif lol8[1].giflaugh.gifrotflmao.gifrotflmao.gifrotflmao.gifrotflmao.gifrotflmao.gifrotflmao.gifrotflmao.gif

To all the fashion whores out there in the Toronto.  Please donate your non two button, double vented jackets.  You do not want to be laughed at as being outdated?  I will be more than willing to pick them up.happy.gif

You want my advice?  I do not think so, but I will give it to you anyways.  A well dressed, well manned person comes makes the best impression on people.  A well dressed, ill mannered person make the worst.  (The remark you made on the gentleman with the beard is downright rude).  They come off as being arrogant.

A well reasoned point. But is it not also true that, in an online forum, the man with only six posts is in fact the one making the impression?

Heh, didn't mean to rag on you and I certainly have nothing against beards (still think 330ck's beardy Kiton suit thrift fit pic is one of the best on this whole site). But I think yours could use a taming.

He doesn't let anything get in the way of a classic suit that fits. He doesn't make the mistake of a button-down with a suit (some might not consider that a mistake, but I do). He could add a white pocket square, television fold, but that's a purely personal choice--either way, it works. If it were me, I would have gone with black pebble grain longwings (Imperials), but, again, that's either six or a half-dozen, which goes back to the versatility that comes with simplicity. He could also add a fedora or a stingy brim. He could go with a bow tie. If he wanted to peacock it out, he could reach for the sock drawer, either a grey/charcoal argyle or a play on the maroon tie. So simple and yet so many possibilities.

It actually is a button down, but thanks for the kind words, it really is my new favorite suite! And Tubs, the navy one is at the tailor.

Never been a fan of black longwings. The formal color seems incongruous with the casual details—blucher construction, broguing, pebbled grain, double sole. Now that I think about it, though, perhaps it's no more incongruous than a button down collar with a suit.

See above

I'm here, just haven't been thrifting as hard the last few weeks. I did pick up a sick pair of Ferragamo wingtip loafers for myself that I'm going to need some suggestions on what to wear them with, without looking like a douche. shog[1].gif

Excuse the double post, just saw this.

Berlin is one of the most amazing cities in the world. You'll have so much fun there. However: THERE ARE NO GOOD THRIFT SPOTS IN BERLIN. At least nowhere (east or west) you'd go in any touristy capacity. Seriously, I wasted many good hours flipping through piles of 70s polyester suits priced at 30 Euro each at those horrible Humana stores before giving up.

Do hit up the flea markets though. If you can haggle, I'm told there are some decent finds to be had.

In before DM7 posts that wolf picture with a quote like "I ONCE REUINITED ORPHANS FROM 10 STATES AND 7000 MILES AWAY ON A SINGLE TANK OF GAS AND NO STOPS OR MEALS BETWEEN; THEY JUST CALL TO ME!"
