who else is selling stuff (being thrifty) that is a bit more interesting than we would expect?

Only thing I have unusual right now is a vintage accordion. It's quite nice. I've had a few inquiries, but no offers yet. I think it is along for the long haul. See my signature below for the link.

Also, I like J Crew :(

whoah there buddy, I also like many of j crews individual pieces. I didn't mean to insult anyone I just meant that with this peacoat it is hard to style it without looking like I just came from a j crew lookbook, all I meant by tool is someone who subscribes completely to an aesthetic that might not genuinely represent them. I mean I own many j crew pieces I just find them more versatile in styling ability than this peacoat

+1, but this is only going to accentuate the shortness of the vest, since his tie and shirt will be showing. Technically Easy is correct, but most folks out there won't notice that button buttoned. They WILL notice your shirt muffin topping out your trou.
My vote? Leave it buttoned. And yes that suit looks KILLER with the red tie.

I'm rarely a paisley guy (which I think I told you when you kopped the RLPL paisley off me), but that tie -- the texture and the colors -- is teh sexchs.

"No".

Not sure whether this is universal, and will disclaim that I have NOT researched this. But I suspect you would have at least a plausible claim that they have to honor the tag price. It's the classic mistaken coupon situation: It's an offer to sell, and you've accepted. They can CANCEL that price, but only after giving you notice. You accepted their offer before they canceled. I'm sure one of you young bucks is going to tell me I'm wrong, and the UCC actually has some kind of exception on point, but at the very least, I would have made my dissatisfaction highly audible, and would definitely have asked for a manager and threatened to call the Better Business Bureau AND TJX customer service.

That's all I EVER find for ties at TJX. LeSigh.

More thread synergy: This logo is on the shells I bought about a week ago. I'd seen it before, too, on another pair of seriously trashed shoes.

Speaking of: Reminds me that I saw this UNBELIEVABLE pair of Brooks Brothers Made in England suede wingtips. Turned the first one over? Just over a couple of Jacksons. Got really excited. Grabbed the second one and there was literally a HOLE in the side of the shoe that I could have put a pingpong ball through. I think this dude's dog got a hold of his shoe. It was so depressing.

And speaking of holes (yes, I see it): That canali shirt I got the other day? Massive hole in the arm that I missed in the store. ffffuuuu.gif
If you're following along at home, that's a $7 set of pearl buttons, ladies and gentlemen.

Dude, am I the oldest regular on this thread (HS '94)?

2 stores yesterday. Crapola at the store that yielded the dozens of Hermes/quality ties. But the [Breach of the Warranty of] Goodwill [and Fair Dealing] yielded a pair of RRL beige denim, a nice Venetian (the city; can't recall the brand but I think it had Venice in the name too) tie in a burgundy polka dot (that turns out is 4.25" wide!! ffffuuuu.gif ) and a pair of reverse orphan, super recent Zegna su misura (missing tag, otherwise it would have been jacked the eff up) glenplaid trou with a gorgeous light blue overcheck. All at reasonable prices. Will be stopping by later this week to see if I can reunite the trou with the jacket -- without having to drop $150 just for the Zegna name. ffffuuuu.gifffffuuuu.gif

J. Crew is largely shit and their target look is fairly toolish.  Get over it.

The entire forum is "good taste" (this is also posted in MC, btw, though that is of little relevance at this point.  I doubt J. Crew would be defended to the death on the SW&D side either), and if you get offended by a little bit of elitism, you're going to find yourself offended pretty damn often here.  Of course, there are exceptions and there are plenty of great J. Crew pieces (just one page back Eazye posted an awesome blackwatch plaid toggle coat that is drool-worthy), but much of it is poorly/cheaply made and unoriginal, so the flack is well deserved.

The nice thing about fashion is that there is no ultimate arbiter of style, so you can just as easily tell me to screw off and continue rocking the J. Crew gear as you please.

Actually selling it for my co-worker. His mom passed away last year unexpectedly and his dad needs some money. I am a bit of an instrument collector (mostly stringed) and I would love to keep it, but really just want to maximize the sale for a friend.

Class of '93 here...

As for J Crew, I like the cords and chinos I have from them, but that's $8 worth of investment into "the J Crew look".

spam[1].gif Tagged 32x34, but measure 15 waist laid flat (i.e., 30) x 32 inseam and 43 outseam. Light beige herringbone with patch back pockets. Button fly. spam[1].gif

If anyone is interested, let's take it to PM.

j-crew thrift fit,(a few weeks ago) tweedish 3-peice.  yes mostly crap. but like you said- there is no arbiter of style. so one can rock it. btw, i don't like my pants too short. and i do up ALL the buttons.

however, i would never tell you to screw off as i like your straight up style of commentary.cheers.gif

I did the math quick in my head and picked a year I was still in High School, I think I was there in 2001 (point being those cutoff pants remind me early 2000's in HS) ...... I'm 28 now....
