I stopped by a high end consignment store that it usually a little out of the way for me, and pricey to boot. They had a lot of nice stuff, but didn't seem to know what most of the SW&D was... RRL jeans marked as RL jeans, Gitman Vintage priced as regular Gitman. All of it was too big for me, except for this:



for $14, I think they thought it was some off brand BS.

Yes rusty -- but not the red kind. Soft and fuzzy. Double vented. Sleeves will have to come up a smidgen but I'm wearing it as is tomorrow, big meeting and then I have to be children's choir dad keeping the little ones in line at 645 Ash Wednesday service...and I love showing off to the organist (this guy, if on SF, would crush us all, he's a trad dandy unafraid of even busting out white bucks when the time is right)...recently found what have to be nwot thick dark brown wool flat front Bean trou that will go great...and some AE monk straps...will do a fit pic if I am not feeling blimpy & have time...

Picked up a couple BB Black Fleece by Thome Browne ties that were mixed in with some 346 at 17 each for myself from TJX. Didn't want to wait to see if they hit clearance.

a lot of tjmaxx/marshalls action lately....

Just a hypothesis but I think a lot of post Christmas/fall overstocks/returns wend their way through the retail system now and maxx/Marshall's is the end of the line. Seems like feb-march they're good to cruise and then again in mid July to sept as retail stores unload what's left to make way for new fall/back to school stock

Other times they're hit or miss...you can luck into corneliani clearance or whatever at any time, it's just my luck, at least runs better the abovementioned times

My best guess

Tell me about it. Thrifting is going to suck terribly here in about 10 years when the stock of recent-ish high-end stuff starts to dwindle unless another store opens. Definitely. No more Isaia, Loro Piana, Kiton, Brioni.....etc.

At least Hubert White still carries Cucinelli, Oxxford and Zegna. Hubert White will be the only true high-end clothier left here. Heimies, Twill by Scott Dayton, Judd Frost, etc are upper-middle tier.

Thank God we have our small streetwear-ish boutiques like BlackBlue, Askov Finlayson, MartinPatrick3 and Len Druskin.


On another note, my brother works for Goodwill as a store clerk. They had corperate breathing down their necks today. He said they expect the store (in a lower middle/middle class area) to gross $6,000 per night. The store manager (who is super cool, probably the coolest manager I know of) said this is going to force them to mark up Polo and J.Crew (what little nice stuff they get). He said the store manager's boss pulled up in a brand new Lexus. Ridiculous......

My guess was that Jamie was at the Rose Bowl Flea Market ("World's Largest Flea Market" so they say) - really an extension of vintage clothing stores, some ok deals to be found, but in general catering to those who are looking for that one cool vintage piece. I used to sell there before I got into vintage clothing, just collectibles and such...a slow day for me would have been 1-1.5k, but averaged 2.5 to 3k. Most of these vendors will end up putting this stuff on Ebay if it doesnt sell after having it out the first time...then back in rotation at the Rose Bowl
