Before I joined this community, I had one pair of jeans... I now have three, along with two pairs of cords and probably five pairs of slacks. I'm making baby steps at dressing better... My Incotex cords are super-comfy though! And I'm not going to argue with that $3.99 price tag (racked next to a pair of Dockers tagged at $12.99!). tinfoil.gif

TBen's suit is a very very decent and probably of recent vintage, icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Question:

Is there any way of dating these suits by fabric alone?

I found 3 Blanc Blue Kiton's with 14mil fabric (Sup 180's) but left them because they seemed super dated. I always thought Sup 180's was a more modern fabric but I guess I may be wrong.

Before folks think I am kerazy, I left behind a Kiton haul because they ticked all the bad boxes:

Box 1: Ventless with low gorge and low button stance, TICK
Box 2: Crazy Pleating on the pants, TICK
Box 3: Crazy sizing with super short arms under 23" and super short inseam - Fat dwarf/midget suits perhaps, TICK.

But then they had Super 180's fabric facepalm.gif. How did that happen? I thought these extremely fine twines were more of recent vintage than old. Kiton have never been known for being fashion forward but even so it is easy to tell a 1980's suit (generally) from a more recent one.

Regarding suits: They will not be in the thrift so no chance of a redemption pick up, I left them behind around 6 weeks ago and the chance of them being on the rack after all this time is negligible.

The tag vaguely looks like Hedi Slimane-era Dior Homme but I don't think I've ever seen anything like it before. Doesn't really mesh with brand's aesthetic but it could very well be an ugly unfake tie. Or maybe it's more recent and I'm just unfamiliar.

Now I know where the buttons are all going to die.
I'm not sure if this is new to my local GW but after a recent. minor change in some of the sections, I saw these bags full of buttons near the tills at the front.

The strangest thing - and there are others that I can think of - is that they don't seem to be in sets.

Beers after work with my office mates, feeling a bit free. Moseyed down to the Maxx/Marshall's and they had the Polo wool/leather bags like were posted here a couple days ago but $199 (ugh). Piles of them. $199 Zegna shirts and an Etro coat for $599.

But sometimes, you feel a bit free and spend a bit more than you would in a thrift because you had beers after work, a little money in yo pocket, and what the hell...seeing all that thrift store dreck for months on end -- especially in the dead of winter -- can make one spring for one of these:

Went to the Flea Market the other day and got proof that the dealers are worse than the Thrifts now.

Found a pair of Alden Penny Loafers in a light brown...very GOOD condition. Im thinking "Awesome! no way this guy is gonna ask for more than $40" hahaha. was I wrong. This guy wanted $200. Look em up, They went for around 160 on the 'bay. So lame. No one that goes to the flea market is gonna wanna drop $200 on Alden's. Maybe $100, but not $200.

I think dealers (and thrifts) have forgotten that their customer base are people with a limited amount of cash. People who broke or People that know their shit (Flippers) arent going to pay close or above eBay prices.

Anyways, go to another stand. In the past, this stand had a Barbour Waxed Parka jacket or whatever for $50, I shouldve probably picked that up. These people have access to some good shit. We're talking Filson, Gaultier, CP Company...prices were decent, but still more than I wanted to drop. CP Company Wool jacket for $60.

It just made me wonder, if you have access to such a good amount of shit and you know your brands (this old lady was on point, wasnt in the dark about any of the brands) why the fuck would you go to the Flea Market to slang this stuff at prices that will make bargain hunters gassy?

Last stop. What looked like a recent Burberry Duffel Coat. It wasnt new with tags so I doubt it was fake, it felt awesome. She wanted $300.

What the fuck is this world coming to?

I don't know about the first guy but the old lady sounds like she's prolly a retiree and need something to do for some cash. I doubt she will be tech. savvy enough to sell on zee interwebs where she can garnish a bigger audiences. Hence, selling at the flea market is a viable option for her. Also, with the advent of bargaining hunter shows such as American Pickers, Storage Wars, and so on, people are jumping on the selling their crap for retail/auction prices. Also, having eBay/price check on the go, by having smart phones, mofos think they can get eBay auction prices and look up their label on the spot. They know folks buy at flea market on the cheap and auction them off for profit so why can't they cut out the middlemen and make that eBay moola on the spot? I know, sucks, right? ffffuuuu.gif

Before 6 months ago, I had none. Now, I have 4 and getting my fifth pair. I, too, have a problem as well. It will take me a few years to break them in and to show off those beautiful high contrast fades!

Hahaha, makes sense why you left those Kittens if you are not into flipping.

Is anyone else experiencing a malfunction with the spoiler function? I can't damn spoiler others' pics/comments until I edit them! Super pain in the ass! ffffuuuu.gif

A few things from today...

Vintage ski pants by Alpine Joe, of Canada with Schoeller Textil fabric from Switzerland.
I'm getting ready for my thrift fit pic from Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies in a few weeks. biggrin.gif

NWT PRL puffer down vest

Vintage Banana Republic chore/barn/outdoor coat in rare XS (I always find vintage BR in >XL)

Another kicking PRL tweed coat. This is similar vintage to the one I found a few weeks ago. mid to late 1970s. Probably near the same vintage as Wes' recent PRL find.
I'll have better pics of it (and the fabric) in a few days on the Vintage Finds thread.

I have found that same jacket like three times, always in XS. I normally wear a small and an XS was still big on me. Weird sizing on BR jackets and stuff

I stopped by a high end consignment store that it usually a little out of the way for me, and pricey to boot. They had a lot of nice stuff, but didn't seem to know what most of the SW&D was... RRL jeans marked as RL jeans, Gitman Vintage priced as regular Gitman. All of it was too big for me, except for this:

for $14, I think they thought it was some off brand BS.
