GATS are comfortable shoes and I think the white/cream/off-white color scheme looks nice.
As for price, not unlike MC stuff, certain SW&D items have a good deal of brand equity, which in turns results in a higher purchase price. You can get original GATS for something like $95 shipped. MMM obviously is a designer brand, so they price for exclusivity. At the end of the day, no different than buying a Kiton tie or a Hermes jacket - mostly unnecessary consumerism fueled by both construction/quality concerns and concerns relating to one's social identity perceptions.

I used to be a religeous wearer of Adidas Shell Tops, but due to foot issues and the need to wear custom orthotics, I can no longer do so. Are there GATS made in extra wide sizes? This is the main reason I can't wear the Adidas anymore. The only time I have worn any in the last 10+ years was for my brother-in-law's wedding (see my avatar photo). My feet were killing me for days after that, although I felt no pain during the wedding or the reception

Grendel, surely you'se trollin'....

I can't believe you're not seeing the MC paralells here. One is clean, well-made and -- hee hee -- "timeless", the other is shoddy and muddled, with a big logo center stage so one can signal to their peeps whatever they wish to signal by wearing that logo.

(Wes, I'm about the farthest thing from an expert, but I don't think the MMMs come in big widths).

As opposed to the common projects with the digital readout printed on the side to signal to their peeps?

I'll take your word for the better constructed. I haven't felt Common Projects or MMM. But timeless? Fashion sneakers are anything but timeless, unlike vintage longwings or 1940's bespoke suits.

I guess this will be my next option.

Haha, no way, dude. Those CPs (to me, anyway) just look like a classic design, like Converse. (Really, Steve McQueen wore shoes like that! :rotflmao: ) Honestly, I could do without the bar code, but I'd have to disagree about the logos. That's one of the main reasons I started looking at more expensive shoes in the first place. I guarantee you, most people think you're wearing great-looking, but cheaper shoes, anyway.

If they're like converse, why not get converse? They're like $20. Anyway, enough thread derailment.

I'll just say that this is where I started on the SWD WAYWT thread:

$11K

I found two Sir Pendleton wool shirts at Goodwill last night. I almost got them... But on closer inspection, they both had questionable stains on them. One had what looked like bloodstains on the collar, and the other had something yellow on it (just slightly off the normal color, but it looked bad). Such a waste...

tl;dr: MC & SWD are two entirely different senses of style, each with their own merits, neither of which the other will ever understand.

It's not true! I'm the secret baby of both forums...when my identity is revealed, we will live as one.

P.S. Sorry, just wanted to know where VLSI was grabbing the brag-worthy dealz at.

Yeah, I actually appreciate both for different reasons, as do many others. I should have specified *most* people in each group wouldn't appreciate the other camp.

EDIT: And of course post up man, it's a discount/thrift find.
