@Jmorris, that brioni tux, did the pants come with it? If so, that is an amazing find!

I appreciate the feedback, even that which must be taken with a grain of salt.

that being said, I was very clear that I am aware I will not have the same taste or opinion as everyone else and vice versa, at no point did I say something was right or wrong. but I am curious for some insight on the mindset of bargain hunters -- I am thankful to those of you who responded honestly and provided that insight.

it is interesting to understand the different types of bargain hunters out there, whether they are shopping to flip or to keep, or focusing on quality or quantity, condition and brand name, etc.

I also wonder if people buy these items because they can't afford new items, or simply because they think, "why spend thousands on something I can find for under 100?"

anyway, I (obviously) agree with jkidd in saying I think this discussion is completely relevant to the thread.

But this is exactly what most of us do. I know Wes (and many others) cover many miles each week. I recall DM7 saying about one of his epic hauls - and it was epic - that it was the result of more than full time hours over the course of 8 or 9 days, plus the cost of gas, etc.

The knowledge on this thread is not about knowing how to go into a store and honing in on the most wearable/flippable items. It's about going and plowing through acres of shite and finding that handful of things that validate your time, either monetarily, wardrobe-wise, from the esteem of colleagues when you post here, or just the fact that you managed to pull a Brioni shirt from a skid row thrift, as I did recently.

cool. this is opening my eyes a lot. starting to see you guys value the hunt itself just as much, if not more than, the actual clothes.

anyone can walk into bergdorfs and pick out an Armani suit, but not everyone can find one in their local thrift.

that being said, I suppose a vintage suit is kind of like a bespoke/mtm, because it will be more rare than a current season's offering off the rack.

I love finding stuff for myself - this is tagged a 39 but fits me very nicely as a 38S.

Dual vented, (fake) ticket pocket, all wool, leather buttons, ugliest lining I've ever seen!

Much much less of an eBay brag...

I didn't see the hole on the sole until after I won it oh well I have a good relationship with my cobbler but that looks like a hard fix

My gf came home with a suitcase from NYC - she did pretty good. I was talking to her on phone while she went through the clothes. Among the items was a Charles Tyrwhitt Navy Blue blazer that has functioning cuffs, dual vent, super 150s. They don't look very expensive new, but it's a cool looking blazer. I'm hoping I can have the waist taken in enough to fit me, without having the vents popping wide open.

Other items were a Brioni dual vent suit, couple of oxxfords, PINK shirts, zegna shirts, etc. I believe both the oxxfords are orphans. One was a navy blue pinstripe that was paired with a pair of oxxford pinstripe pants that were from another suit ffffuuuu.gif

Here are a few of my favorites - the first couple are from her haul:

Allen Edmonds Viking II size 10.5D, vibram sole wish these fit. (Click to show)
I'm on the fence on these. They're intriguing as a leather chukka for wearing with jeans but I'm afraid of the wear pattern on the heels and how they'd feel on me. butbut.gif Ouch!

Oh. My.
Why do you torture me with all this BB stuff? drool.gif

Only tag shows this.

After a little research I think its just the fabric maker.

Here it is with me trying it on. Super slim, I think its a 39-40L is it too small for me or just right? It's def more fitted than I'm used to but maybe this is how it should fit. Opinions?

...

Not pictured.
PRL flannels in various colors. It's a flannel day for me. 7 total between BB and PRL.
The length is long for styleforum tastes but is no issue for real world wear. Looks great! Only wear it with slim legged pants, though.
Did I mention that I'm a BB brand whore and looking for their flannel shirts? bounce2.gif

And it's about asking about the items that are available!

besides, if I want the opinion of people who thrift, no point in starting a new thread when I can go to the source.

my posts have been sincere and genuine, but if you want to get an attitude... you don't see me complaining that all your "available" posts should really go in the classified section, do you?

this is a bragging thread, NOT a marketplace.

I didn't realize that this thread's intent was entertainment for lurkers, but if it is I guess you have a valid point.

If you'd like to be a moderator, or perhaps even just a Hall Monitor, I suggest you make that request over in the Trans Mod thread...and good luck with that.

Word to the wise, jumping into the thread and attacking one of its most dedicated posters (and really also attacking almost every other regular poster) will not make you friends, so when those "1 or 2 true items of beauty" do pop up guess who wont be getting them?

Beautiful suits! This though is truely a feat! Haha! My wife used to have an Audi TT. We bought a desktop computer from Costco and couldn't even fit the box in there! It was then we decided we needed something practical (she had the car for about 3-4 years by this time and had the "sports car bug" out of her, but she's got it back now!). I remember looking at a late E85 Z4 when we were shopping around for her and the cargo room was pretty much non-existent!

I humbly and respectfully disagree, Dig. I have nowhere near the experience you do with fits, but to my eye, he just looks like he's got longer arms and torso. Witness: The jacket length hits no longer than his thumb tip, and hits right around the apex of his, ehrm, inseam. I think that's where a jacket is supposed to hit, no? I agree with the slim trou comment, and the otherwise good fit.

You have 10 posts and joined this month, you shouldn't be trying to help monitor anything. BP wasn't the one who initiated "attitude", you were, with your attempts to "monitor" a community which you have just joined, and aren't yet viewed as a truly contributing member of whose opinion is valued (by me at least). This is a bragging thread, true, but it is most definitely a marketplace of sorts, we all know this, but there are some general guidelines to the extent to which it is used as such (don't post desired price etc). In short, you'd know that everything you mentioned has been discussed before, and isn't going to change based on you, or anyone else for that matter, voicing your opinion.

With that said, I hope you stick around and show us some great finds. Your initial misstep has happened before, and lots of people have stuck around and are now great members who also started off on the wrong foot. (Ian i'm talking about you, lol.)

Edit @ Snoogz, yes I have the pants as well.
