The official thrift/discount store bragging thread - Page 4062

maybe I'm in the minority here, but is it really worth (for example) buying a brioni shirt that is faded and beat to shit?

sure the quality of a brioni jacket is something that can last for years when treated well, but a lot of the things I see posted here they are well past their expiration date. Personally, I will only buy a used item that nobody can tell is used. And I will only buy a vintage item that is meant to last a while, like a jacket or sport coat -- not a shirt or sweater.

I guess, my food for thought would be: Does the name on the tag, which nobody else sees, make up for an item not looking good?

I am hoping for responses from those who agree AND disagree with me. I suppose I want to raise a discussion and provoke people to (re)evaluate how they "hunt."

It depends. Are you buying it for personal use? Are you buying it to flip? A Brioni shirt is almost always worth at least $30-$40 on the bay (maybe others have had other experiences but this pricing has always worked for me)

If the shirt is beat to hell but still worth money, why leave it? It really doesn't matter whether it's something you'd wear if you're only buying it to sell. It's no different than buying something that isn't your size.

Hey, I hear you.. Finding two Brionis that nice - especially in a 44 - would make my year!  Congrats!

Trying hard to show the VERY subtle check within the grey

OHHHHHHHH i know others have thrifted brioni tuxedos, but i don't remember one being posted, this is my greatest find ever, with my RLPL cashmere suit, and this is prob worth more since the other was off white and soooooo baller/sooooo pimptastic

Whats the coolest part of all?! MOTHERFUCKING BRIONI CUMBERBUND TO GO WITH IT!!!!

I ONLY JUST REALIZED ITS MISSING THE BUTTON!!!! PLEASE GOD SOMEONE THRIFT ME A REPLACEMENT BUTTON LIKE THE ONES BELOW! Almost any single tux button would work me thinks.

Edit: for you country music lovers (real country) I don't think hank done it this way

Awesome haul as often.

The Brioni cumberbund is sick.

Not a country fan at all, but I just read a case about Hank Sr. and his "maybe" daughter suing for royalties to Sr's songs once she found out he might have been her father. Even when my current thrifting sucks with school coming back into the picture, thrifting synergy works in other ways.

thanks for the response, burnout. I totally get your point.

I suppose I am more of a buyer/wearer than a flipper/seller. thus, I won't buy something that isn't in good shape just to make $30 to even $100+ -- but if it's in great condition but a wrong size, I do buy with a friend/family member in mind.

that being said, I don't see the point in "bragging" about something in shitty condition that you are just going to sell for $30 smile.gif

Yeah... the definition of brag worthy items is somewhat loose!

Hmm... Since Jett is supposedly Hank Sr's daughter, shouldn't she go by Hosephus?

censored.gif Please go start another thread on your definition of the word brag or whatever the point of the post was. This thread is not the place to try and initiate a full back and forth conversation in regards to the merits of the thread itself.  If you want an "agree or disagree thread" start a poll.

I'm just trying to help monitor the items here so I don't have to look through 50 old raggedy, stained shirts to see 1 or 2 true items of beauty.

besides, if I want the opinion of people who thrift, no point in starting a new thread when I can go to the source.

my posts have been sincere and genuine, but if you want to get an attitude... you don't see me complaining that all your "available" posts should really go in the classified section, do you?

this is a bragging thread, NOT a marketplace.

I'd rather have him ask what's acceptable than post 20 pictures of dated crap. And with the tangents this thread goes...I think his posts are more than relevant.

As for whether to pick a beat up Brioni, I would if the buttons are good. I've harvested a couple shirts in case I find a nice one with missing buttons or lose one.

mvxwell: Lurk longer. Telling everyone they are doing it wrong and need to change how they're posting, especially as a brand new member, isn't a great start.

We all agree that plenty of non-brag worthy stuff gets posted. But maybe participate a little and get to know the club before pitching reform.

Welcome to the thread. This thread is an anomaly of StyleForum. Most of us pick up everything in sizes that aren't ours to pass along to other members here for trades for stuff in our size or minimal costs to help feed our habit and aid in e-thrifting adventures too. Do you know how hard it is to find something in your size and style at a thrift?

The other spectrum is that you have to remember we are all in different parts of the country. While 3-4 brioni suits are a day-in-the-life for DM7 or Ray, I have yet to run across a single suit that wasn't hit by an army of moths with machine guns. For some, just finding a label is worth bragging. I appreciate the discussion on outerwear even though Florida has absolutely no use for such garments. Its awesome to take in the knowledge the members here have. Take the good with the bad. You "1 or 2 items of beauty" may be crap to others and the remaining 48 items may be grails for some.

I personally think this thread would be rather boring if people were only posting stuff that was "brag worthy" (if we could even come up with a universal standard for what constitute this status!).

What I find boring and dull might make someone else's year, and vice versa with respect to my finds.

My APCs from 2006 have a button fly.  I don't think they've ever "switched" from zipper to a button fly.  Some models have a zipper, while others have a button.  I've seen several pairs with the same RiRi zipper that I have on my Billykirk zip wallet, though I believe that is a rare detail.
