I almost always leave Harris Tweeds, but this was calling my name. Throat latch, patch pockets, partially lined, horn buttons, lots of waist suppression, side pleats (I'm not sure if that's the proper name on a SC). Probably a 38R. Available.

I still feel like a used car salesman in it, and not, like at a high-end dealership but kinda "Hey, let's take a look at this Gremlin, it's only got 85K miles, owned by a little old lady since 1976!" type of place.

So after church I go to our new outlet mall to check stuff out after getting a BB "60% off winter clearance" card in the mail. Bought nothing although I almost went in on an 1818 white with blue and black houndstooth SC double vented, tagged fully canvassed, but made in china and a silk/linen/wool blend I didn't really like the texture of...at least for $200 (marked down from 600).

In the store, a CFO type customer asked me if I worked there, he had a question. I said "no, just out of church," laughing. Very seriously he said "You look so sharp, I just assumed so."

Then I go to the BLoomingdale's outlet (NWT T&A ties marked down from 195 to 60, meh. All were patterns that didn't trip my trigger) and these two cougar sales ladies stalked me, talking about the jacket and pocket square combo "I love it! Is that Harris Tweed? We had ones like it a couple months back! We love it when guys where pocket squares. Where are you from, anyway? Are you a professor?"

At that point I gave in and decided to keep the jacket. The community has rested its case, and I have basically been unanimously browbeaten into putting it into the fall/winter rotation.

In other news, Bloomie's had some nice Chinese handrolled silk PS's (The one on the right is Boss, machine-stitched edge) on clearance 40% off lowest marked price in colors/patterns I can use, marked down to an average of $6.50...so I kopped, and one of the cougar clerks while ringing me up said "hm, some of these are marked wrong," and reduced my tab a few dollars...I blame the jacket on that, too:

^^^^^^^ hahahaha, noice! Looks great by the way. My wife used to tell me I looked like a car salesman, until I started getting complements from total strangers. Happened last night actually. We were out to dinner and I was wearing one of my loud windowpane jackets that she used to say she hated. The waiter comes up at the end of dinner and says something to the effect, "I've been trying not to mention it, but I've got to tell you, that jacket is fantastci. Of course this is in boystown, but you get the idea.

Buy an iPad and eBay it new in box and then go get ya loafers

And your back story is fantastic.

I really like seeing thrift fits and wish there were more here. It's less "heavy" than posting at WAYWRN (where they often critique every little aspect) and it seems there's more creativity here (maybe it's working with what you got).

that's why I poast here...and don't there. What you come home with, you hadn't necessarily set out to find. People here know that stuff at the thrifts find you...and what you get is what's out there today among the dreck/stuff not in your size.

Some of the WAYWRN stuff I ask myself "this was actually chosen among many other choices available at full price?"

Nice jacket. Glen plaid is pretty classic—this doesn't strike me as being so wild as you seemed to think initially. Enjoy it! I'd definitely lose the white shirt (too formal for tweed) and change the tie or the square so the two don't match. A chunkier silk knit tie would maybe work better than the fine grenadine.

Could be wrong, but isn't that the Isaia coral thingamajig?

Anyways, random stop while doing errands (only been to this GW once). Actually found some stuff in my size.

Shirts: All CT, all 18x36 (yay!), all french cuff (less yay).
Tie: Badass older label BB Makers



Anyone know the difference between the CT's marked "Classic" (also say Made in Romania) and the middle one here with just the flat tag? Left another 2 CTs behind with stains/marks, some big boy like their stuff apparently.

Also reunited my first suit orphan with its pants, but it was a remarkably ugly Dolce & Gabbana marked up to $100 so that was as far as I went.

Was starting conservative today with the pattern mixing, I guess playing it safe. Interesting I didn't even see that as glen plaid because of its large scale (i.e. I guess I typically see it in much finer weaves in worsted suits).

Also, I don't see it as much as wild/loud as...that color and the scale of the pattern looks to me like it's dirty. Like it needs laundering kind of dirty. I can go way louder with the patterns and be OK (One of these days I'm gonna find one of those outrageous Orvis red/white/green/gold tartan SCs in my size on clearance at the outlet in a price I can afford...THEN you'll see, heh)

Found a really nice SC that felt like cashmere but was just S120s.  Gorgeous horn buttons that I want for myself (came with 2 spares in a pouch).  Has a small moth-hole but I can return it;  I don't think I will, though, since if no one wants it I will swap out the buttons I'm in love with.  Available, though.

I only sell pants sometimes.....since I don't particularly enjoy it. Why was that again?
