The official thrift/discount store bragging thread - Page 3917

Managed to snatch a few hours to hit some stores, mostly coming away empty-handed, though I found a couple of beautiful things if I do say so myself. I haven't found the magical thrift with the piles and piles of NWT selvage jeans, however. Do the other LA guys tell me where it is after I find my first 7-fold tie?

Couple of recent finds and a n00b question below. Everything is available.

Some ties: Luciano Barbera and Robert Talbott BOC x2, L-R.

BB Makers, PRL, BB Makers, L- R.

Some nice shirts. Canali french cuff 17-43, E Zegna XL, Isaia 17-43.

Any XLs want to jump on these? RLPL shirts:

And then there's this piece of awesomeness. Is this the same print as the smoking jacket CesarC posted a few days back? It's a 40S.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

And my new favorite tie I've found, after the three recent Zegnas, a beautiful Holland & Holland.

Not pictured: BB made-in-USA OCBD in 16-3, PRL khaki cotton SC.

And some passes: an Orvis pith helmet (!) - my size, too, but didn't seem flippable at the price and god knows I'd never wear it. And some squarish-toed Prada loafers with damage on the toe. Good passes?

OK so here's my other question. Feel free to tell me to take it to the eBay forum.

A couple of days ago, I was in a Marshall's and posted here that I could proxy for a nice Canali SC, 44L, wool/silk blend. Some pics here:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

No one responded immediately and I had to run, so I took a chance and bought it, assuming someone would PM me when they saw it - I can't find it now, but there was a recent back-and-forth over someone on the board leaving behind something similar at a TJ Maxx or something, and getting lightly admonished for it.

No one has PMd, though. Is that because a) Canali isn't worth it at the price ($350 + tax + shipping) for any of the 44Ls here, b) the pattern is too voguish/ugly (FWIW I love it), or c) because I'm new here and people don't know me yet? Or D) some combo of all of the above?

Regardless, any suggestions on what I should do? Seems like NWT Canali SCs go on eBay for about $75 - $100 more than I paid for it, but I don't want to wait a few months to get my money back if I do a BIN. I could also just return it and get my money back, but now it's worked its way into my brain.

Oh, another noob query. When someone says "I can proxy," I assume that means "You'll pay what I paid." Does it actually mean a small charge on top of that? What I meant was cost+tax+shipping. Trying to build up some goodwill (uh, so to speak) on here.

Two honey hole discoveries recently - bit of a drive but will definitely be going back.  The haul today included (all at deep discount / very thrifty prices):

Peter Millar cashmere blend argyle sweater vest NWT (tagged $125); 3 Peter Millar windbreaker style coats in NWOT condition; 2 Uniqlo pieces, Pal Zileri shirt Italy; Acne coat; 2 Brooks Bros Fitzgerald blazers; 2 Tyrwhitt shirts one NWT the other NWOT condition; Nat Nast silk blend heavy shirt / light jacket; Brooks Bros Loro Piana Rain System coat; Burberry London shirt NWT (tagged $165); Gant Bastian shirt NWT; Brooks Bros shirt NWT (tagged $70); this season Faconnable shirt NWT (tagged $165); RL Black Label Italy shirt NWT (tagged $325); Polo RL sweater cashmere blend made in Scotland NWT (tagged $265); Ben Sherman sweater NWT; 4 Ben Sherman shirts NWT (tagged $79 - $89 each)...plus misc PRL stuff that will flip, etc...

Last week it was Thom Browne, Corneliani, Versace, more Peter Millar, Marc Jacobs, Rugby RL and such.  Really need to stop buying and start listing on eBay...in 2013.  Thus none available / all going to eBay save a thing or two for moi.

That Canali is a nice jacket; I don't think it was too much of a risk picking it up though the clock is ticking so make haste in posting it on eBay if no one here was interested.  The audience here is much smaller than Ebay...thus if you can afford to absorb the cost and wait for the right eBay buyer, assuming they come along eventually, you may well make a profit.  If you can't afford it, or will get nervous as the deadline for returns approaches [like I do], I would pay for a 10-day listing starting on a Thursday night around 9 or 10pm ET, and if it doesn't sell, do one more round on a 7-day free listing that starts / ends on a Sunday evening.  After that, return it.  50 cents lost at worst, and hopefully you have other things to make up for it.  [something always makes up for it, eventually]

WHY DO SO MANY NICE SUITS HAVE SUCH SHORT INSEAMS?!

Seriously... aren't there like a ton of guys out there over 5'8? Why do the nice ones always have pants that would fit me like capris? /rant

Awesome find by the way. Still have yet to pop that cherry at a thrift.

+1 my general rule is if I offer something up and nobody bites within a couple days, it's going to eBay or back to the store.

Started out Friday morning with a flat tire on my way to work.  Went thrifting after work, cosmic balance restored.  Here's almost everything from yesterday and today.  Haven't done any measurements.

Not sure, never seen Bape/ Baby Milo made anywhere but Japan. Baby Milo is their diffusion line though (IIRC), so who knows. From what I remember, it doesn't do so hot. Never had luck with it so I stopped picking it up.

The thing about LA is there are so many damn stores. There's a thrift store or consignment shop on every street corner it seems. I must have hit 40+.

Similar, but not the same.  Smoking jackets are so awesome, though, nice find!  I have some very nice duo-toned cufflinks by Lord West that I really like.

Also, I can't wait to share what is by far my best haul yet, pending verification of authenticity...  Will take pics and post tomorrow.  Unfortunately had to pass on a Brioni tie that had runs criss-crossed right across the front, a beautiful camel-colored Daks SC riddled with moth-holes, and a vintage Camp 7 parka worn everywhere but especially showing through at the seams of the arms.

Seems like everyone has been killing it from the tax-season donations!!

I would say in general, unless you're looking for a pair of jeans for yourself and they fit perfectly, don't bother with 7FAM. That brand's time in the sun is all but over, they're really not desirable and they're not even that good.

And I would be very surprised if it was an intentional crotch hole. Although Dsquared2 did have jeans with a huge dick fade a couple years ago, so anything's possible.

There was a phrase sloppily stitched on the selvage line and on the pocket, so I left them. really that only bape that goes for anything now aways is their collabs
